Is Shadow Magic PBEM still a thing? Is this forum the right place to ask or is there a community somewhere on the internet?
I'd like to play a game sometime if anyone is still interested.

The PBEM community still exists. Sort of.

Heaven Games (Link) which hosts the patch and downloadable maps seems to have come to a complete halt in the last few months. Likewise, the ten or so of us who used this forum to play multiplayer games have also come to a complete halt. I think this is due to the emergence of AoW:3 which used many of the regular AoW:SM players as beta testers. :-)

I would suggest inviting a few players via PM to play a game so that you have at least two human players. Then you can either set up a map with some AI players or post a thread looking for more players. I've officially retired from AoW:SM, so apologies in advance for not joining you in a game. Scroll through this forum to find other players.

As a head's up... A PBEM game can take quite a long time. With two active human players, you can be done in a few days if both players play quickly. However, with seven or eight human players and full 48 hour delays between actions, a game can take a year.
Thanks for the reply!

Maybe if the PBEM community was disrupted by AoW:3, then I judged that game too harshly and should go play it myself. I was put off by the move away from oldschool artwork, unit enchantments, and rolls to hit and deal damage. I also disliked it by association with Civ 5, I don't like 'streamlining'.

Well it sounds like both this forum and Heaven Games are fairly deserted in terms of PBEM. But Perhaps I will try your suggestion sometime.

Great open minded response. AoW:3 didn't grab my fancy the way AoW:SM did, but I haven't tried it since the expansions and patches rolled out. PM me eventually... I actually miss waking up every morning to a couple of turns of AoW:SM PBEM in my inbox. Used to get up 45 minutes early every morning just for 'em. :-)

Yeah, until I made AWOL into a new artform....
