I am in love with this series. I've only recently started playing Turn Based games and this has it all in my book ( Lore,Lore, Lore etc....) The only problem is that i currently suck at it. I've been playing a lot of Galactic Civilizations lately and feel pretty comfortable with it, but when I found the AOW series I all but abandoned everything else.

So I was attempting the campaign and only became frustrated. ( I talking about Shadow Magic btw) . In my frustration I looked up some cheats ( yes, im ashamed .....lol) and then i found a massive army advancing in on my kingdom after using said cheats.

So when you cheat does the AI cheat too? Do the same resources go to the Other side when you enter the +1000 gold cheat? Thats my question.

I've scoured the aow.heaven. community forums and drawn a blank. There also dont seem to be many helpful NOOB guides for this game.
I don't think the AI gets the gold/mana like you do, but I noticed in AoW2 Wizard's Throne that if you type in the code for All Spells then the AI gets all spells too. I figured this out while playing Serpent River - one of the AI that had all water sphere's suddenly had Fire Domain cast (A high rank fire sphere global spell) as well as Enchanted Roads (Earth) and Poison Domain (Water). Several other AI had these up as well. I have never seen the AI trade spells before, and this only happened a few turns after I cheated all spells into my spellbook.

They do not seem to take advantage of Free Movement however, nor from infinite mana for spellcasting or instant-cast spells.
I don't know anything about cheats, but where in the campaign are you getting stuck?
I confirmed that if you cheat to get Gold/Mana or whatever, the AI also get the same amount
So do that when you have much less cities than the AI is a suicidal move

Edit: if you found nothing at the heavengames, please ask the question there.
There are many things that they consider as universal knowledge that everyone know :)
And i believe that they almost never cheat. I did and i learned the hard way

The computer always seems to be able to see the whole map, regardless of whether you cheat with that or not.

Yup, using concealment or invisibility only works against other humans.
I love the AoW games, but I really wish the AI was better.
Thank you all for the insightful replies. I've been without an internet connection for a few weeks and only recently checked back here.

Anyways, I was getting stuck on the 4th campaign mission, but after a few more failures I've learned to expand more aggressively and to take more risks, which has payed off greatly.

I still have trouble with the campaign, but have found the sandbox games more suitable for learning tactics. Excellent game. After I finish shadow magic I plan on going back and starting the original, If only for the excellent soundtrack and story.

If you love Shadow Magic you should try some of the excellent user made maps at http://aow2.heavengames.com/downloads/lister.php?category=scenarios
Some of these maps far, far surpasses the original campaign maps.

For AoW 1 you can even play user made campaigns - http://aow.heavengames.com/downloads/lister.php?category=single
It's several years since I played AoW 1 (I found the AI too weak and combat too slow compared to Shadow Magic) but I remember Arctic Wolf making som remarkable campaigns.

Thanks Petrus,
I didn't know that there was such a vast collection of user made content at aow heaven. How can one ever see then end to this game? !! Love it.
Think I'll take your recommendations to heart and try a couple from Arctic Wolf. Though I've only just started playing the first AOW I find the story and atmosphere to be amazing.
Since I'm not to far into Shadow Magic I may just stay with the first one for a bit.
