So we all know how 'DRM free' worked out for AoW3. Is there any information on how Planetfall will handle this? As an old AoW fan I'd love to see it with DRM free LAN (yes, purchased!).

Don't get your hopes up, garvanell. I do hope they include at least a good map editor. But looking at the store page: 3 different editions, the usual crap like season pass etc.... Hey, triumph/paradox, you guys forgot the loot boxes!

Nope, looks like they just milk the brand name. I doubt Notch will save them this time.

Cheers, Alex
I came to make a post about DRM when I saw this. I still feel burned about the DRM in AOW3. particularly the fact that you had to connect the the internet to play a LOCAL Area Network game and required multiple copies. I learned about it after buying the game and playing it for a month and it soured my opinion of it so much that I haven't played it in 2 years despite liking the actual game. If they thought that there DRM was going to make me buy 3 copies plus DLC just so I could play with my brothers that live with me, they were very wrong. I was hoping that they changed their ways, and I honestly think that GOG should refuse to sell the game if they don't. I understand locking online play to a code or something, but LAN is like the traditional PC equivalent of split screen. I have so many memories of playing LAN games with friends and family, who many times went home and eventually bought the games. Sorry for the rant
One of the problems with enabling a DRM-free LAN capability is the existence of work-arounds like Hamachi that work like virtual LANs (good old days of AoW1 over the internet using Hamachi). From a Dev's perspective, enabling DRM-free LAN opens the door for pirated multiplayer. Disabling it closes that door (without more complicated work arounds).

I understand this viewpoint, but my counter argument is that if people want to pirate they will regardless of DRM. It is amazing how quickly things can get cracked these days. Anyways its unlikely that our talking here will change Triumph's opinion. I just miss the good old days when customers weren't treated like criminals.
