Hello,

I bought and installed Age Of Wonders 3, GOG version. I could install all the patches (3 patches) that came out. And now I cannot install the Golden Realms (see also posts several days before, says it cannot find the game), and I cannot find the new patch (2.2.2), only the full installer for the base game.

Does this mean, that I am supposed to uninstall my perfectly working game, download AGAIN 1.9 GB just to update the game before I can install and use the newly bought content???

Are you serious??

Do not tell me it is necessary to download 1.9GB just to install the patch. This would be worse than Microsofts 'service packs', which usually had half the size of the installation media.

And what is it with the accusation 'Cannot find the original GOG game' the Golden Realms installer throws???

The game is not only from GOG, it was installed correctly in a non standard folder (E:\Games\AOW3) and runs without any troubles. It also was patched with 3 patches (V 2.0.1.5, V 2.0.2.6 and V 2.0.3.7) downloaded from my account. Which are mysteriously gone now (i still have them since I always save such things). Game runs fine in version 2.0.3.7, which obviously is the version before last. So *why* does it say it is not here???

This is worse than Steam! Steam is (I do not use it personally, so this is from reports) known to download wildly and patch on my disks, which is one major reason I do not use it, and never will. But forcing the user, who was just silly enough to buy a DLC to reinstall the entire game, and worse - redownload all is unacceptable!

Is this what you mean with DRM free?

And for the future - do we have this sh..t to expect with every DLC which becomes available?

I am seriously p.... off.

This, or wait until GOG provides an update, if the developers provide one that is. The whole issue sucks, you're right. It looks like a glitch in the installer and it's definitely not the standard behavior of GOG's updates and DLCs. Don't forget it mostly depends on what the developers provide.
At least you can still play your current installation till you've downloaded the base game again. Not so bad in my opinion and as you're in Austria, download capacity and bandwidth is probably not a big deal either - apologies if I'm wrong.

Thank you for the nice and calming words :-)

The download size is not really an issue for me (no DL limit, 50MBit/sec bandwidth here). But it would be an issue in my second home where I do have a download limit and only 8Mbit/sec connection. It's quite reckless, IMHO...

What I strongly object to is the method: No explanation, no apology and *deleted* the older patch files from my account (which is an issue for itself, btw).
I can see just the full game (which I downloaded when I purchased it in April) and the newly purchased content. I had to search the forums here to learn, what I have to do now to use this new content which is by the way around 60MB.

I *suspect*, it *is* sort of a protection: If somebody posts the small installer for the DLC, it should be unusable without purchasing the game *and* DLC on GOG. (I won't fit to Steam installations anyway).
So they force us to DL the entire game, and make it impossible to give away the new DLC to others which have AOW3 from GOG, but not purchased the DLC. But I may be wrong.
If I am not wrong, this kind of sh..t will go on with the next DLC...

Of course there's always a chance that some Mr. Super Smart figured this out, but in my experience with GOG that's rather unlikely. There are a lot of games here, smaller than 100 MB, that could be easily shared. GOG trusts its customers and doesn't use any protection at all. Not at least, there's always a way to circumvent these things. To me it looks like a glitch and if the necessity to download the whole basegame again is indeed on purpose (grrr), then it's the idea of the developer/publisher and not GOG's. I sincerely hope you're wrong on this ;-)

It looks like they fixed it and made the patch a separate 5.4MB download. There is no official announcement about it that I can find though.

Hello,

they fixed nothing. The new patch is for the new version. If you try to install it on the original version of the game (which you patched 3 times), then the new patch will tell you, that you have no game installed...

I reinstalled the game, as they forced me to, and the new patch is able to patch the new installation.

Also - the size of the new patch does not fit - all the old patches, which have disappeared from our accounts were around 60-80 MB. I think this is only a small fix.

But - since they do not include a 'patch notes' file anymore, I do not really know. But - the patch notes file is the responsibility of Triumph, not GOG.

This thread may give hints to the new patch: http://ageofwonders.com/forums/topic/patch-v1-4-bugs-problems/

Btw. - they say older saves are incompatible, also not GOGs fault...

A friendly bump for this very helpful thread.

I was starting to get vexed a bit but indeed one has to completely get rid of the old version and redownload everything, including the DLC installer.
A very amateurish update by Triumph Studios, especially the breaking of old save games. :(
