After looking around a bit in the local forum, no one appears to have posted about the issue so far, so here we go:

I played direct Multiplayer with a friend of mine recently and we experienced a strange bug, several times. Manual combat started to differ between the server I hosted and his client. Units were on different places, units that were dead on his side were still alive and kicking in mine, etc. That sometimes produces weird effects; for instanc I could see him cast a spell on a blank spot, but where a creature was on his side. The last time it ended ruining a game for us, when he "won" the battle and went back to strategic map, while I had to wait indefinetely for him to finish his turn in the manual battle.

We got our games from gog and we both run the 1.3 version of the game.

Help would be much appreciated!

Others might have a better solution, but I would suggest upgrading to version 1.4 of the game via the sticky above. The 1.4 patch fixes bugs which the developer never fixed. Hopefully it fixes your issue too!

(I've never played a simultaneous game, only PBEM in classical mode, so I don't know if 1.4 will provide a solution.)
I glanced over the 1.4 changes list, but as far as I could see it only included balancing fixes and new additions. Have I overlooked something?
you overlooked just doing it
the new additions will not alter your game in any way that I have noticed
Ok, I'll try it out and post my results here.
