There is going to be new Age of Wonders game next year and it is going to be sci-fi? o_O

That's not what I would expect. :-) I hope they go WH40k route and use the same races only sci-fied.
Space Dire Penguin killing Space Steam Tank would be so novel. :-)

It's still 3D, so not interested, sadly.

Either there are too many good games getting made these days or I have much less time to play them. My backlog of games I really want to play is already too big. Why weigh it down with more Dire Penguins?

Same. It looks like yet another civ5 clone, and I hate civ5. It's another many pixels, no artstyle game. Only the tripedal alien looked good.
Want to bet they will release yet another Age of Wonders game with:
- no incarnates/seduce/dominate/charm
- no actual flying that makes you immune to melee ground-walkers
- auto-generated ships like in civ5 / aow3 (yes, they brainlessly copied that sort of detail too)

Maybe the gameplay will be good, and maybe the art will be tolerable enough for me to play it. But I cannot stand aow3's visuals and I've tried several times.

From what I heard of some factions mentioned in Planetfall, it isn't really based on Age of Wonders factions, but on sci-fi concepts. Not sure why they called it Age of Wonders.

If you look carefully, the question answers itself: "Because Dire Penguins".

3D doesn't automatically mean bad the same way 2D/Isometric doesn't ensure the game to be good. ;-)
With that said, I never got much into AoW3. But I am certainly interested in seeing how this will turn out.

Here I thought I know you a bit but it seems you are complete stranger to me.
Why wouldn't one want more Dire Penguins in their games?!
"Yeah, don't give me more ninjas, pirates, Dire Penguins or even Dire Ninja Har-Har Penguins, I don't want them in my game." Said no one ever.
Even Football Manager would be better with them.

Tell that to my GPU. Seriously though, I don't need a TBS game to be as shiny as possible. And I actually don't understand the need for 3D in either strategy games or RPGs.

Agree on the penguin part, obviously.
Not sure what to make of this. Probably will not play it as I also did not managed to play AoW3 that much. I prefer the oldies :)

But a Space Dire Penguin will definetly make me cough up the 40 bucks or so.

Video by the devs. Sounds like this game will insanely bland and uninventive. These dipshits are already patting themselves on the back for putting in mechanics that have been copied from other games in the aow series and from the Civ series

This whole video I didn't hear a single new, unique or interesting idea

The question time at the end is particularly revealing, for example someone asked if there multiple map levels and the dogshit dev started fellating himself about some sort of domain-type mechanic that will allow airstrikes. Not only is that an extremely old idea, it has nothing to do with the question and it sounds like this ''Age of Wonders'' game won't even have multiple map layers LMAO

Also the setting so far is ''there's space marines with assault rifles and insectoid aliens with big claws''. WOW!!!!!!!
Apparently we will be able to take over another player's town and start training their troops types.... WOW!!!!!! SO INNOVATIVE!"!!!!!
One of the devs, the repulsively homosexual-sounding one, says he 'not into hard sci-fi' and likes more fantasy sci-fi, which sounds like a polite way of saying he doesn't care about the genre he's supposedly working on and would explain how the setting is so bland

Also this will be available on PC, but also on consoles..... LOL

THE GOOD STUFF:
Fortunately it sounds like they will have a solid system with multiple damage types, missed attacks that can hit the wrong targets, and maybe some in-depth customisation of unit weapons and social/economic structure (copied from Civ6 I guess....) Full flying units will return instead of aow3's pathetic grasshoppers.

>Larger battlefields than AoW3 with interactive objects that can used for cover and even destroyed under sustained fire.

>Strong likelihood mod tools will be released during the games launch. (IMPORTANT!!!!)

So it might turn out to have okay execution, but the concepts seem horrifically unoriginal.

On the other hand, I always dreamt of solving my mimo problem by nuking his towns even in Shadow Magic, so airstrike sounds like good solution. :-)

Sounds like wasted opportunity. I have the feeling that in this setting it could utilize multiple layers even more than before and instead they just throw it out.

Not cool.

Missed attacks would be the best addition by far, IMO. I can't stand the always hit mechanics in AoW3. It's the main reason why I never got into it. If they go back on this and make it possible to not hit, I mght give it a chance after all.

This sounds great, doesn't it?
"(NPC is short for Non-Primary Combatants)"

Deliberately introducing naming collision. Awesome.

"The Spacers - ... Their society and religion were shaped by gaming culture ..."
"The Paragons - ... They haven’t lost their arrogance and entitlement though."

Hoo boy.

At least the gameplay seems to have potential and the graphics are probably more bearable than AoW3..... can't make excuses for the awful writing though. They should hire me.

Triumph has a long history of poking fun at the audience in a good natured way. The teaser reveal for AoW3 was a picture of a Troll and a Flamer.
