how do i delete savefiles in Age of Wonders 2? haven't looked too extensively, but i can't find it in the manual (got it at replacementdocs.com). tried the usual suspects -- right-clicking on the file, pressing delete when file is highlighted, etc, but don't want to start pressing keys randomly. i had 13 savefiles in the third campaign mission (yeah, that may be a bit excessive), but now that i'm starting the fourth, i'd like to clean up the save index. i don't recall this issue in AoW 1, i must be missing something -- what is it?

Maybe what works for me in Shadow Magic will work for you.

Click on My Computer or whatever file-navigation you use (Windows Explorer, whatever Mac computers use, etc.) and then on the name/icon of your hard drive where you told GOG to install the game. It's almost always the C drive by default, if you just went with the defaults.

Go to Program Files (x86), find the folder called GOG.com, click to open it and find the folder for your game. (In my case, with Shadow Magic, it is called Age of Wonders Shadow Magic.)

Inside, you'll find the Save folder, and that's where your games are.
ok, did all that (thanks), but the only item in the AoW2 folder that says "save" is a dummy save folder -- it's empty. where are my saves? if they're in the game application, i can't open it to look for saves -- it just runs the game.
Hi Stevef;

If you are using Windows 7 and User Account Control is turned on, the files will be in this location.
C:\Users\*YOUR USER*\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Age of Wonders II\Save
thanks for the reply Davespice.
not so sure about turning on user account control, but when i log in as administrator, i still don't get "appdata" subfile in User file. not a huge issue -- i certainly won't write any more save files, and i suppose i'll use my water 1, water 2, water3, etc. files for the other spheres (i went back and tried the optional third fire mission -- brutal). but it would be nice to clean up the index. loads and saves seem to be taking a long time to initiate now, and i believe it's the clutter in the save file. i love this game, it's an extremely impressive piece of work, but IMO if the developers allow you to write your own save fies, they should certainly have given you a way to delete them after the mission is accomplished. live and learn.

The AppData folder will be there, it's just hidden. User Account Control is on by default in Windows 7, so unless you turned it off - it will be on. You can get into the AppData folder, just follow these steps;

When you're browsing into your users folder, click inside the top bar which shows the path. It will show something like
". Computer . Local Disk (C:) . Users . *YOUR USER* ."

When you do that you'll see it will change to a text path like this;
C:\Users\*YOUR USER*

All you need to do is type in the AppData folder so it reads;
C:\Users\*YOUR USER*\AppData

Then you will be able to browse to your save folder.

No probs, I've got Aow2 so give me a shout some time if you want to try a play by email game.

will do. i occasionally follow your email game posts, looks like great fun. not so sure i could keep up with the heavies, though, and it would break my heart to send my beloved forces to an untimely end B). cheers.

Don't worry, none of us would really be considered a 'heavy'. Those guys all hang out on Aow Heaven. It is a lot of fun, especially the politics. If you want though, we could just have a few co-op two player games against AI opponents to get you used to it.

i've got two weeks off in the holidays -- i'll get back to you and see if there's an open slot for an email four-player. must confess i've wanted to give it a shot -- for the amusing play-by-play if nothing else B).
Thanks for the help Davespice (+1). :)

Consider this bumped!
Hi
I might add, -
I have Age of Wonders Shadow Magic via Steam, and found my save-games here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Age of Wonders Shadow Magic\Save

or: \Age of Wonders Shadow Magic\EmailIn

or: \Age of Wonders Shadow Magic\EmailOut

That did the trick for me :)
