I have a version of the first AOW game and it crashes when i open the tutorial (for example when i capture the tower). There is no error message, the game just shuts. It also crashed when i tried to open the campaign.

I have WIndows XP SP3 and SiS Mirage 3 Graphics on my laptop.

Okay, so try compatibility mode.

You can also try Window Mode, that can sometimes help.

Run the Aow Setup, go to settings and change the Startup Video Mode to Window.
Then run the game and hit Maximise.

Hey I had same problem and I also have XP SP3. By setting the "Detail Level" to Medium in the settings for AoW, by running the config exe in the folder, I was able to start a game ok where before it was crashing.
