I really really like to pre order this game from GoG,
But as you know, Steam is the only platform that allow to (easilly) use mods.

For AoW4, it is possible to place mods on paradox site, but few modders put their mods on it.

Personnally i perchased AoW3 and AoW:PF on GoG,
I also modded them and placed my mods on Nexus and Paradox site,

From these game, I also used mod from Steam and i was abble to DL them with a "steam downloder" tool.
Today and before preordered AoW4, i just tried to watch if steam downloader still working,
=> And it seems that now, it does not work anymore.
I really really like to preorder this game from GoG, but been unable to DL mods is a major issue.
(For mods i will do, i will put them on paradox site, so every one will be able to use them, even GoG users. I don't like companies like Steam that allow themselves to appropriate the rights to the work of others... When i mod it is for everybody).

It is a question for GoG staff :
Will you plan to do something about mods issue and unfair competition from Steam ?

Preorder AoW4 is possible until may the realease date, i suppose that for this game it is too late, but for all the games ?

I assume AOW4 mods will be done through the Paradox client, not the Steam client, as is the case for EU4. Seems to have both as options, whatever.... I can only assume you've never played any EU4, so I'll suggest you check out Anbennar when you've the money.

I strongly doubt a want of Steam would make the game any less modifiable.

For those who get it day 1, can you get the rest of us updated here how the mods are being done? Are they done through the launcher instead of Steam Workshop?

Because with AoW3 at least I could download the mods that were 90%+ all just published on the Steam Workshop via a downloader, but those no longer work. :<

The Launcher has a section for Mods where you can get and upload mods.
This leads you to the "Paradox Plaza" where the mods are stored.

So you do not need Steam, the SteamWorkshopDownloader or any other tool for mods.
This on the other hand means that you will need a Paradox-Account to download mods.

Well, it seems that I have to correct myself a bit.
Actually it seems that the Community is split between SteamWorkshop and Paradox Plaza.
A lot, but not all mods are currently available on both sites.
The Launcher recognizes mods in the Mods directory and in theory we could use mods without any login.
But in reality it is currently not possible to download mods for this game with an anonymous login from Steam.
(So you cannot download the mods from Steam if you have no account.)
So far I also have not really found mods on other sites than Paradox or Steam.
This also means that mods only uploaded to Steam are sadly not available to us.

I'd hope the Devs enable the anonymous download of mods from Steam (that is their decision) but as they seem to push the Paradox-Account I doubt it.

They really need to fix this shit. It is incredibly frustrating to not be able to access mods freely, and it is despicable by Triumph and Paradox to not allow downloads from the Steam Workshop. There are several mods I want that simply aren't available on their platform, and due to how Steam and the Workshop functions, I can't even message the developers and ask them to put them up.

You could make a forums thread in the community hub's general discussions, pointing that out. There is a good chance the mod creators will see your plea.

For me the link in your first post is a 404 on github.
The project vanished completely.

Most Steamdownloader that I know these days use SteamCMD and an anonymous login. (Like e.g. the somewhat famous steamworkshopdownloader.io Website)
That is basically the only way Steam allows to download from their Workshop, if you don't use Steam (as SteamCMD is made by them...).
And Steam aggressively fights any other Downloader.

But for SteamCMD to download with anonymous login, the Devs have to enable that for their game.
For example the devs of Rimworld did that after the Community begged them to do so.
