I have watched several Let'sPlays and I really like what I have seen so far, especially since I love everything scifi and space related stuff. But as I take it the story ends with a massive cliffhanger.

So, does the game have at least some conclusion or does it just leave you there hanging in the air. I don´t mind if not every single loose end gets tied up, but I would really hate to play something that has no real conclusion at all. (I really hated what happened to Wing Commander, with this giant cliffhanger at the end...)

It might be a personal thing, but a game without a real ending is some sort of no-go to me, so is AR stilll worth it?

If that's the case, don't bother. Remember Halo 2? That sort of cliffhanger...

With Halo 2 at least you expected the next game to wrap things up. Not the case here, you get the feeling you're just getting started. It was writen as a trilogy right from the start, and it shows. It's a shame we'll problably never get to see the rest of it, because the story is good... I'm not too fond of them either. Another game that springs to mind is System Shock 2 (which was also supposed to be part of a trilogy), but not only is SS2 a superior game (IMO) but also you get a much bigger sense of acomplishment.

To be honest, I knew AR had this problem before I played, but I decided to risk it. I don't regret it... but it's bitter-sweet.

System Shock 2 never felt like part of a trilogy to me. Sure, it helps if you know what happened in the first game, but you can figure out most if it during the game anyway AND the game ends in a satisfying way. Maybe a loose end here and there, but nothing that makes you sit in front of your screen, roaring in frustration.

But do you know what is really fun? When games end with a cliffhanger, actually get a sequel and the cliffhanger is still not resolved, because the new game is a "reboot". I just recently had another run with "Killzone 3" that has this cliffhanger at the end and it is really frustrating when you know there is a sequel, it was just decided to give a crap. And the worst part? Shadowfall is not even a good game, in fact it is one of the worst FPS I have played during the last 5 years or so. Not Crysis 2 bad, but it misses this mark just by a couple of bugs.

Damn... now all barriers are broken and my brain insists of scrolling down a list of all the cliffhangers that will never get solved. I also realise that the best way for me to celebrate a new tv show I love is to... not watch it, because apparently I love all the shows the US audience hates and which then get axed with cliffhangers. I am currently, for instance, very indecisive about "Helix". I mean, I love this show. A lot. Which means, according to Sebastians law about the reciprocity of enthusiasm and tv-show-axing, that it will be axed in the middle of season two.

Just to name a few shows I liked alot and that found an early end by the axe. One minute of silence, please.

Is it possible the US audience just hates science fiction?

Eheh, I know the feeling. I share your pain regarding a couple of those: Pretender and Sliders. And I can add a couple more: First Wave and Firefly.

I think it bombed or some backer backed way out of it? I remember playing it back on the xbox and it had a cash contest of some sort (find a code, get 50k) that got cancelled too.

The way it ended is as you say. A cliffhanger screaming for another. Would be as if game of thrones just suddenly stopped.


Its not an AAA game but I think for $5 or so its worth a play. Its a nice concept, pretty original among scifi games and looked pretty decent at the time too without being overly easy. If you can enjoy any scifi that was obviously written just like it and got canned (firefly,odyssey 5) than you can enjoy it.

Look at mass effect series. That was a lot of fun in one and two expecting everything and getting the cop out codex entry"military power points" for all those decisions you thought would matter like the racchni (like someone is going to animate a scene and script a convo with a big bug the elusive new customers won't appreciate). On top of a "it was all a dream" level of writing for the end. Sigh...


Enjoy the ride in gaming as the devil of business is doing the driving and the destination is always hell. Maybe an odd company or two to make enough pitstops you forget that fact but it all dies just like that on one mans whim or everyones dollar.

At least Firefly later got a somewhat decent ending in the form of the movie "Serenity". I still get emotional thinking about the movie's ending...

The game is definitely worth a play. While there may be unanswered questions, its gameplay and story make it a terrific ride while it lasts. However, if I were to do it again, I'd turn off the game before the end of the game.

MINOR SPOILERS:
The game ends with some degree of satisfaction before the end credits. However, there is an after-credits sequence that throws some extra stuff at you clearly setting up a sequel that will likely never be made. In short, don't continue past the credits!

This is pretty much how I feel about the game. I still find it quite fun to play through, and in my opinion the ending isn't as jarring and abrupt as the aforementioned Halo 2, or the one that first sprung to my mind - Soul Reaver. Definitely bittersweet, though, because I thought there was serious potential here that hopefully would have been refined for the sequels, had they been made.
