warreni: I have a profile and saves from a disc version of Act of War Direct Action, but when I start the GOG version, it does not "see" the saves. Can anyone help me figure out where to move the save files so that the game recognizes them?
Thanks,
Brian
Edit Before Posting: I just checked the Readme.txt in the game's folder, and found the following:
PLEASE NOTE that Saved games created using the *retail* version of Act of War will NOT be compatible with this patch! If you have a campaign in progress, we recommend that you first finish it before you install this patch. (Saved games and replays created using patched versions ARE compatible with this version 1.05 (“Patch 3”)).
I imagine this is your problem, and it doesn't look like an easily fixable one. :(
I'll leave intact the rest of the post I'd already written, in case the info is of some use to someone.
In the folder where the game is installed (the default being
\GOG Games\Act of War - Direct Action) there's a folder called
AOW, in which you should find
Replay and
Save folders. In my
Replay\Last subdirectory, there are several files named
AutoMovie (with different file extensions); in my
Save\P0 subdirectory, there are files starting with
AutoSave and SaveX (where X is a number), again with various extensions.
I should point out, though, that If your disc copy of the game is different from the one GOG offers (i.e., if you own the original release of
Direct Action, and GOG's Gold Edition version is patched further or otherwise changed), then it may not matter where you put your files, as older saves might not be compatible with this edition.
