GamingKingJames: No longer want to test anything out, someone told me that my offline installer wont update anything if I used GOG Galaxy anyways. Usually I would just do it myself but there's no option for me to manually do it

.Keys: Is your preoccupation associated with your data protection? Is that why you want your account to be deleted after it?
If yes I'd say its a reasonable excuse, albeit not many people care about this nowadays.

Just curious, really.
avatar
GamingKingJames: That is somewhat of the reason, in general I just don't like having accounts open if I don't actively use them. If I ever came back to GOG I wanted to test my offline installer with achievements but that was already answered.
That's fair.
Anyway, hope you stay with it though.
We have some shortcomings in many games still not released here, but theres always hope for updates and releases, and DRM-Free is always better.

I am starting to feel a little guilty because I am starting to realize that GOG support is probably super backed up and they have real problems to deal with aside from a guy who just wanted to buy a game and play it offline.

GamingKingJames: So basically I tried to buy a GOG game thinking I did not need an account, but I did need one, so I went ahead and made one, but then I found out that I can just download the offline installer which will always be under my ownership, so I can just delete my account and still play my game. I just wanted to make sure that I am still allowed to use my offline installer after my account no longer exists.
Ok but why do you need to delete your existing account, especially if you are possibly going to create it again later? Why not just keep this one? There are no recurring payments for having it "active", and if you don't want to use it, just don't use it.

Moreover, if your game gets updates later (e.g. bugfixes, new free content, to make it work with Windows 12 and whatnot), you can't receive those updates, nor support from GOG, without the account where you have that game.

So all in all, unless your religion forbids online accounts, just keep your current account. It should have two-factor authentication enabled by default so that others can't hijack your account either, without first hijacking your email account.

I know it sounds weird but I just don't like to have accounts open when I am not actively using them, its a bit difficult to explain. Usually I will just delete the account myself but GOG doesn't have the option.

Well not necessarily weird, identity theft and all, but GOG account can be relatively safe because there is at least some for of two-factor authentication in place. So I feel the worst that can realistically happen with your GOG account is that when you want to use it again in the future, you have forgotten your login credentials and/or changed your email address, locking yourself out of your GOG account.

As long as you realize the drawbacks of deleting your current GOG account, like e.g. not receiving any updates or GOG support for your purchased game anymore. Plus not being able to participate in these interesting GOG forum discussions.

GamingKingJames: So if I decide to make a new account and then link my offline installer to galaxy, will GOG themselves ever demand to see some sort of proof that I bought the game from them or is that not their concern?
No, because no matter what, you cannot link a game that belongs to another account at GOG to a new one at GOG.
At best, as others have said, you can use it with Galaxy, just like you could with a game bought from another store.

It is pretty rare for GOG to merge accounts. You would have to prove you created multiple accounts by mistake.
avatar
Catventurer: You purchase a game, it's yours. You can go to your account, download the offline installer, and put it on a backup drive.

Because there's people that like to say that you don't own a DRM-free GOG games anymore than you own a DRMed Steam game, I'm going to add that nobody is going to show up at anyone's house to delete backups if a game is delisted. You bought it, the game is still yours to play.
avatar
GamingKingJames: My only concern was if I still owned the game AFTER I deleted my account. So lets say I delete my account and make a new one in the future when I am ready to switch to PC games, and I add my offline installer to GOG Galaxy using the exe file, would GOG ever be like "Hey, we need to see that you obtained this game from us or we will have to ban you" or is that the exact opposite of what GOG does?
GOG Galaxy doesn't make you go through a purchase verification for games that are manually added to it. I can verify this because I used to use the program until it stopped meeting my needs and was able to add games that were purchased off other sites without having to verify that I actually bought them. However I have never tried manually adding a GOG purchased game to Galaxy because why? I've also stopped using Galaxy in favor of being 100% offline when playing, so it's not something that I'm going to even attempt to test out....

Instead, I'm going to agree with UnashamedWeeb that you're just making things overly complicated for yourself.

If you think that you're going to make future purchases, don't contact support to have your account deleted. You won't get a refund on games you already purchased, and whatever account you make next won't have those games.

If the issue is that there is a game that you don't like and don't want in your library, you can hide games on GOG - which not all stores let you do.
1. Go to your account: https://www.gog.com/en/account
2. Highlight the game you want to hide.
3. Click on the inverted caret symbol and select Hide Game.

If you don't like your username and want a new one, you can change that in your account settings.

If you already have two accounts and games purchased on both, contact support. They may have some procedure for merging accounts. More than likely, first level support (as in the people you get to communicate with) can't do it themselves, so it will take longer. This is assuming they can do it at all. It's better to just do all your purchases on one account.

This is my only account with a single game, I just have this weird thing that I cant really explain, I just don't like having accounts open if I don't actively use them. Also I am not worried about a refund or anything, I have my offline installer and that's what I use to play. Again, I know it sounds odd but that's just what I do. I just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't have my right to use the offline installer revoked if my account is deleted.

As I said, deleting your account at GOG is not easy.

And if you do manage it, then whatever games you had in your account are no longer registered with GOG. So that means you are not eligible for any future updates (bug fixes, bonuses, etc) or related DLC or some aspects of multiplayer. And they cannot of course be incorporated into some new future account at GOG.

There is no undo, it is permanent.

GamingKingJames: Hi guys, I recently discovered GOG games and was fascinated by the idea of actually owning the game. So I decided to buy a single player game. My question is, if I were to delete my account, would I still "own" the game, assuming I have the offline installer? Also, if I still owned the games after deleting my account, would I ever need to prove it to anyone or no?
If you download your installers, then no one can take them away from you, nor will anyone care to question them. You would also have your email receipts, if you're worried.

I would advise against deleting your account though, because you will lose access to any potential updates and DLCs.

If this is a compulsion disorder, I'm sorry to hear that...

I'm not trying to be insensitive when I say this, but you really should try to make an effort to not delete your account if you're going to make purchases. Besides loosing access to any future updates on the game or the ability to purchase DLCs for it, you're also going to loose access to GOG support for the game in question.

I would try to think of an account with a store as being similar to a credit card or an ongoing subscription service. You don't contact your bank and cancel your credit card after making a purchase, then open up a new one when you need to use it again. Instead, you just set it aside somewhere when you don't actively need it. Likewise if you undergo surgery and are going to be bedridden for a few months, you don't cancel your Internet and cell phone services just because you're going to be spending all your time sleeping and watching the Food Network.

Even worse, doing this with your bank or credit card would raise suspicions of attempted fraud and damage your credibility/ credit standing. And (internet) shop owners aren't likely to tolerate such a repeated behavior either.

Will GOG get upset at me for wanting to have my account deleted?

Well I don't take it THAT far, also the game I bought is an old single player game that does not need any more updates or anything like that. I didn't think this would be a big deal since I only wanted to buy one game.

No, why would they? That's a normal process. All kinds of people decide to delete their accounts for a multitude of valid reasons. They *might* ask you to complete a questionnaire, if you were somehow dissatisfied and for what reason. But that's usually totally optional. No one can force you to reveal your true motives.

But the deletion isn't the problem here. It only gets strange once you try to repeatedly register new accounts (like more than two). That certainly would raise an eyebrow, because to actually buy a game, you would also have to supply a billing address and use some form of payment that is probably already known to GOG, just in the context of another (deleted) account.

But really, I don't know. That part is up to speculation until you actually test their (GOG's) boundaries.

No I don't have more than one account at a time, once this account is deleted only then will I consider making another in the future with GOG if I decide to switch over.
