The original has not aged well on a technical level.
While the graphics can be overlooked, especially the controls are simply bad, compared to modern games.

I never played the Gothic games back then and these are the reasons why I don't want to play them today, unfortunately....

Yes, sadly.
I still count Gothic 2 Gold as one of my favorite games of all time. But i can't play it anymore. The controls just do not work for me anymore.
I really hope that the Gothic remaster turns out well and is successfull. I *really* want a remaster of Gothic 2 as well.

Not a remaster, but a full, from the ground up remake, as it also says in the title.
A remaster of the original Gothic would be this one.

Eh. Been playing Gothic 1 for the first time over the past few days and the controls are completely manageable. Keyboard only is fine unless you need to look down a cliff or something.

The best comparison would be the original Tomb Raiders. If you haven't had problems playing that, Gothic 1 will be the same.

Gothic is just the type of game that can (potentially, ideally lol) benefit a lot from a good remake that brings that setting to life

If it goes wrong, well, nothing can sully the original

Remake aside, I wonder what happened to those Switch remasters of Gothic 1 and 2 that were going to be released on the PC as well.

If they're good enough, that's probably the way I'm finally going to play through these games.

I really don't understand why the controls are hard for others.
I played gothic 1 and gothic 2 gold several times even changed the controls to gothic 2 like it was in gothic 1 and it is simple to swing a weapon holding control and then left or right or up or down.
You can even let go control and simply press down to go back a little which kinda means you won't get hit in most casses in gothic 1 and 2.
Also haven't played the game in some time.

Has there been any indications what will be kept, what will change (hope not)?. I mean its a remaster. Just do up the graphics and controls if they need to be done. Hopefully they arent doing their own whacky spin on stuff that already works in the original
