skeletonbow: Ah, I didn't realize the game in question was more or less XXX rated. Yeah, The Witcher 3 has nudity and sex but it never shows genitalia. In terms of movie ratings I'd say it is R rated rather than XXX. As for XXX games though, I'm not sure what Steam's official policies are on that.

I have a feeling GOG isn't interested in having XXX games here, but I'm not interested in XXX games anyway so it's of no consequence to me. Personally I think it would be better for XXX games to appear uncensored and in their own store than mainstream and toned down/censored, mostly because people are likely to buy the product thinking they're getting one thing to later find out it is the "safe" version and I generally detest censorship. It'd be better for Valve to make a secondary service for XXX games and just call it... "Steamy"... store.steamypowered.xxx

DCT: Well I can't personally speak on Valve's official stance is but from what I seen they don't want any actual "XXX" or hardcore erotic titles on their store, they did reject Seduce me(i think that was the game I am thinking off) and then pulled it from Greenlight as well which was some crappy porn game and most erotic titles that are on there like Huniepop, the Sakura series, NEKOPARA, ect. are censored i.e. any graphic shots of genitalia in the uncensored versions are covered up in the steam ones, graphic sex scenes are removed or altered or swapped to take the graphic parts out, ect. for their steam releases to some complaining from the peanut gallery..
What surprises me a bit more than any censorship thoughts, is that people would buy a XXX game on Steam or some other digital distribution platform alongside all of their other games generally with no way to flag them as "private" other than to mark the entire profile private, but if you mark your profile private that locks you out of all kinds of things such as Humblebundle, steamgifts.com, steamcompanion.com and numerous other steam related sites that require you to share your profile publicly to see your game list or for other reasons. I'd think for some portion of people (and probably the majority), if someone buys adult games they'd not want to advertise it to the world, but also would not want to lose the ability to share their profile publicly. I suppose one could make dual accounts though, one for regular games and one for pornfest.

you'd be surprised at how many people really don't care that people know they are playing these types of games.

Indeed I would... :) Nothing wrong with porn, videos/games/whatever but it's generally something of a private nature with people I would think. It'd be like watching a porno and having some app post on your Facebook the current video you're watching or something. That'd be an "um, no" for a dozen reasons. :)

well a facebook is usually different then say a Steam account, since most people use their real name and such on Facebook while Steam is usually just a generic username and very little real info about yourself.

skeletonbow: I don't buy the "Steam censors games" argument, except in cases where a game would violate a country's laws in which case Steam isn't censoring anything, a video game developer is censoring their own product in order to meet a country's laws and then marketing their product through Steam.

As far as I'm aware the version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Steam is the exact same version available on GOG. For those who haven't played the game, it is very adult oriented in every possible definition of "adult oriented", including nudity, sex scenes, gory violence and bodily dismemberment, torture, and extreme language to name a few.

As an example of the latter... I overheard 2 women arguing with each other in a village in the game and I only caught part of the discussion but one woman said to the other "... or I'll stick a broken rake handle in your cunt." That kind of shocked me to hear in the game, then I laughed my ass off.

There are some rather graphic scenes in the game too including a prositute basically nailed to the ceiling dripping blood, people being burned alive at the stake for presumed witchcraft by a whacky relgious cult.

I have not seen nor heard of any evidence out there that the Steam version of this game is censored, and I can't think of any good business reasons whatsoever why Valve would force a game developer to censor their game without a law being broken that requires the game to be changed in order to comply with a law. In such a case, the same law would ultimately apply to GOG.com also and we've seen there are a few games banned in Germany to which GOG must comply. Steam's no different.

DCT: yes the steam version of Huniepop is censored
http://www.huniepop.com/post/96145179773/a-comparison-that-demonstrates-the-type-of
There is a difference between the things you mentioned in something like say the Witcher 3 where there is sex scenes you don't see penetration, you don't see a close up of male or female private areas, images of semen covering various parts of the body/"money shots" or even "Creampies" like what you see in the uncensored version of Huniepop or uncensored versions of most erotic VN's that are available on Steam.

Basically if a game has a R rated "movie" style sex and approaches to nudity then according to Steam and other stores it's fine but when it get's more hardcore to down right pronographic/XXX film style then that's a different story and the game needs to be censored to make it less..pornographic.
I don't see why GOG could not do the same Steam did and release a censored version allowing the users to get the uncensored patch by themselves.
I start to think that HuniePop is not... hardcore enough. How about this: NSFW!

To be fair I never said they couldn't. Though admittedly seeing the censored version it's still at times a bit more harder then what is currently here not by much though. Why they don't I have no real clue, maybe they were never sent a censored version or the dev was only willing to censor for Steam since it's a bigger store. Possible I know artist types can be a touchy bunch. Anyway who knows. Honestly it doesn't bother me any if it's here or not, if I want the game I can get it on Steam or buy it directly from the dev and get a uncensored DRM free version and a censored Steamed version.
maybe it's because I am old and I never been one for buying stuff exclusively at one place since I didn't grow up in the nearly all digital pc era. I have my preferences sure but if one place doesn't have what I am looking for and somewhere else does I buy it from there.

If the devs of HuniePop have a DRM free and client free version I would buy it from them, but I am certainly not installing Steam client or any other form of DRM in my system.

A DRM-Free version is available at the Humble Store, afaik it's also uncensored:

It's DRM free? I get the feeling this will be my tertiary option.

But if GOG releases it I would buy it on GOG too just to show my devotion.

Yes, I can confirm that the Humble Store version is DRM-free and uncensored. You can also get it DRM-Free and uncensored through the dev's website via Humble Widget. While both options are served through Humble servers, I believe the devs get a higher percentage of the sales if purchased through the widget so if that matters to you you may want to make the purchase through the widget instead of the store.

The game actually wasn't listed on the Humble Store for quite a while until a couple weeks ago, and was only available through Humble servers by purchasing with the Humble widget through the dev's website. That is also a good sign that Humble may be starting to open up a little with respect to games that have a strong focus on sexual content.
low rated
Something that bugs me is that the "no visual novel" policy seems to not apply to games aimed at females, I don't want to sound like an MRA, but I want to point the power and influence man hating SJWs have, I mean, Why would you reject games targetted at males while allowing their female counterparts? Might sound tinfoil, but it looks like a SJW conspiracy.

Even if that was the excuse, its invalid (and flimsy) anyway as you can pick between the sexes and switch anytime.

Also, Leisure Suit Larry.
