Re: Why Fallout: London is going to be hosted on GoG:

"Unfortunately the mod's just too big, they (nexusmods) can't host it on their website. Simply put: Fallout London is just too large.
...
But there was light at the end of the tunnel and that came from GoG. We've had some conversations with the technical boffins over at GoG and we now have a viable way to make the mod available for anyone who owns the (base) game on GoG.
GoG has honestly been our saving grace and we cannot recommend them more highly, they've been utter angels."
Oh, well that's interesting. Well, good on GOG then.

Ranayna: Of course it’s only available if you own Skyrim, but it is still separate.

That's because the makers of Enderal got a special agreement with Bethesda to distribute it that way. As that repeatedly mentioned dev update video highlights, they haven't been able to get in touch with Bethesda do something similar with Fallout London.

Oh really? I haven't watched that video (i like to go blind into games like this), and i have understood the various postings here that the download on GoG was a done deal.
I really, really hope for the team that they reach an understanding. Not only would it make managing the install a lot easier, it would also eliminate the takedown danger.

Bethesda acknowledged the mod in some sort of announcement, I don't think there's any danger of a takedown request.

According to the announcement video, GoG hosting Fallout: London is a done deal, it's just a question of when.
As the FOLON project lead said, could be the day after the next-gen update goes live if they get lucky and actually nothing breaks or weeks or months later in the worst case scenario.

I do appreciate the optimism and hope it's true, but I can't take anything for granted in this day and age when it comes to major publishers and popular mods.
Yes...
There have been cases where a fan project got a green light and put up a lot of effort. Close to release though it turned out that the person who gave the green light was not actually authorized to do so, and the project had to be canned. I think that was a Star Trek fan movie or episodes that got canned,
On other occastions, a legal department went after the fan project anyway, since they did not know there was permission. A big hassle, even though that was resolved in the end.

Often, stuff flies under the radar and does not get to noticed. But a release like Fallout London, which due to Bethesdas patching shenanigans gets a lot of news, and will be hosted by GoG?

Trademark law is a legal minefield. And clashing with Bethesda? Can Bethesda even still give permission to use the Fallout name, or does Microsoft have to do that?
And Fallout London does not just use the name, they also use the Fallout logo. That is a huge difference to Enderal, which does not use either name nor logo of Skyrim.

I know for sure: Once i am able to, i will download the mod as soon as possible.

Now thats the opinion of only a small minority for sure.

morolf: Haven't played the Bethesda games. Only played Fallout: New Vegas, and yeah, it was pretty stupid how 200 years or so after the war everything still looks ruined, you find corpses/skeletons from the time of the war etc. Didn't make any sense at all.
Uh-hu.

An example for a realistic setting is that the nuclear winter leaves behind an iceball earth thats basically sterile until the sun gets so hot and strong that Earth loses its atmosphere (that will happen in ca 900 mio years) and thus also the ice.

Fallout is not even remotely realistic, not by a long shot.

Even made the BBC News:
Fallout London: 'Bethesda didn't tell us about Fallout 4 update'

"The lead developer for Fallout London has revealed his team had "zero correspondence with Bethesda" over the update of Fallout 4.

Fallout London, an unofficial mod which runs off Fallout 4, has now been postponed due an update heading to consoles and PC on April 25.

Dean Carter spoke to BBC Newsbeat to talk about the frustration and lack of communication he and his team have had after being just days away from releasing their game, 4 years in the making."
It is especially funny for a company that bases long term product sales, support and additional revenue (from the "creation club") on modding community.

Way to go Bethesda.
They should just drop the mod if it's ready, TBH.

I made sure I got my GOG-version F4 GOTY installer and mods backed-up, just in case Bethesda's Next-Gen Updates breaks mods and especially breaks F4SE.

are game developers usually contacting all modders before they make and release a patch?

"We cannot express enough how truly grateful we are for your support and kind words and we just wanted to drop you all a massive thank you for jumping on board!

Seriously, your support couldn't have come at a better time, and it means the world to us.We understand that recent updates and setbacks may have caused some frustration and disappointment - But seeing your encouragement and kind words really lifts our spirits. It's been a bit of a rollercoaster ride for the past week. The new update announcement was soul crushing for us, we feel we let the fans down, we were SO close. But knowing that you're backing us up keeps us going strong... So, we're hanging in there.

We've now all got the update and it isn't as damning as we first thought. However we are still waiting for the updates we need for F4se (And our own fixes afterwards). The biggest issue is that the new update has broken "Material swaps", BGS are on top of it... so fingers crossed for a fix soon!

Once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for joining us on this journey. Together, we'll overcome this Next-Gen obstacle and continue to create something truly special and get it in your hands in no time!

With sincere gratitude,
Team FOLON"
It irks me to the bones when even the project lead is calling it just a mod, which it isn't, and now they're spreading this on BBC. Might as well just call a concretewall a sandwall instead. At least SureAI was smart enough to aptly call their project for a TC (total conversion), because it is. They both are, really.

And yes, Bethesda knew what they were doing. They killed it with rapid but small updates for Skyrim, and now they're coming for FO4's community.

Regardless, great news about GOG hosting the project, eventually.
