Change Log in Game Library completed
+1 on this wish. I got here precisely looking for ways to know what changed, because there is no way to know. Bugs fixed? content changed? does it add or remove features? would I even like the changes? example: Minecraft for 3DS was just that Minecraft for 3DS, and it would display in stereoscopic 3D, which is the 3DS main feature, but since Microsoft bought Minecraft and 3DS is Nintendo and they would not allow it to look better in competing systems, they 'updated' it to cripple it removing features without adding nothing (I am not aware why have not them been sued). I would like to know what is gonna change so I can decide if I want those changes
Definitely not completed! I had today four updated games and there was nothing new in the change logs (if there was even a change log).
I just redownloaded the FTL installer because the game was marked as updated, only to see afterwards that it's the exact same file as before. This is not the first time such a thing happened and I'm sure it won't be the last time.
@JudasIscariot - I was using Firefox ESR, though I couldn't tell you what version from two years ago (I didn't see a notification to tell me to check here, so I just happened here now). The behavior I mentioned there is gone now, but the notifications of games being updated is DEFINITELY spotty.
Awesome addition, but yeah, consistently added dates in the log would be handy too.
Thanks,... and finally. We have waited for it very long time.
Thanks for adding this, it's great!
Just one important aspect is missing: the DATE for each changelog entry!
Thank you, it's a great feature! :)
Thank you for fulfilling this wish oh genies of the GOG lamp :)
thanks
I am loving the change logs so far. Thanks!
@PaladinWay
Are you using Firefox 38 by any chance? Those changelogs are permanent and are not meant to just "disappear" after viewing them otherwise that would defeat the purpose of having them in the first place.
GOG team - I posted in the new my account page, but changelog does not consistently work. It appears to work on the first game attempt, and has worked on the second at least once when switching between menu filters a few times. After that nothing (even when switching between menu filters extraneously).
@Gilozard - Changelog and forums are two completely different things. Link to changelog is displayed only for games that include it obviously. For now these are mostly newer releases witch patches - for example Pillars of Eternity.
Judas, I'm sorry, but this is still not done.
1) Finding the forum link on the account page is much harder with the new UI. The forum link is buried in a menu with a very vague name (More) which does not give a hint that people looking for a changelog should click it.
2) 'Forum' does not imply 'changelog'. It needs to be clearly indicated that changes are tracked in the forum so people know where to go.
3) The forum examples I've looked at don't have a changelog per se - it looks like one update per thread? It needs to be all updates in a single thread at least, so that it's possible for people to identify changes since they downloaded the game.
Having one update per thread is not a changelog. It's better than before, but only barely and is not at all useful for the kinds of things people use a changelog for. It's also very hard to find the forum link on the My Account game page now, and there's still not indication on the game page where to go for a changelog.
TL;DR Thanks for trying, I appreciate the effort, but this is not sufficient.
You'll be seeing more and more changelogs as we add them for a wide variety of games and, thus, this wish is complete :)
It seems that most people aren't aware that this is already being done. Click on the game that's been updated in your Library, then click on the Forum link for that game. Patch notes should be the very first post. Cheers!
Yes! Once and for all, this needs to happen. It's annoying to have to go to the forums to see what was updated, and sometimes it's not even posted right away. Hopefully with the Galaxy beta coming out today this will be incorporated with the website somehow. I'm guessing they'll have a better system for notification of updates through the Galaxy client but it really doesn't seem like it would be that hard to have a better system on the website for this too.
Oooops! Sorry for my previous comment. Just noted that I had given it a month ago already. (ashamed)
And let us also mark an update as "seen" without needing a download. For example, if a French version appears in which I have no interest, I would like to tic off that one as "seen" and avoid getting reminded again.
For the love of Christ, yes. This is beyond a doubt the worst part of this website.
Definitely a must and hoping for an ETA from GOG team on this.
Desperately needed.
It would help so much. I'd love to know if I need to redownload the game or if its just a new/updated goodie that is added.
Yes please! A much needed feature!
I'm always downloading everything just to compare it to what I already have stored locally because it says updated. 50% of the time there aren't any different files because the update was just a new language or a platform I don't use.
Very good idea - I will finaly know what changes go to Beneth steel sky. :P
#777 Votes!
This would be pretty useful. There have been times when I never managed to figure out why a game was marked as updated.
Just read what this is for and thought...gee no $h!t we need this!!
i am here first time, it is a good game site, it is lucky know it from www.google.com
Also, having both the internal GOG version, besides the developer's version, would be really helpful. That, plus a link to the developer's patch information?
This is one of the only issues I have with this site.
Voted; but I do belive that the team already got such plans for the reworked Library anyways!
Yeah, a simple changelog would be really helpful, and also a way of marking an update as "handled", not being reminded again about it. For example, if a French version is added to a game, I won't download it.
Just provide a simple history list of when a game changes, with checkmarks if donwloaded (by me), and a way to checkmark manually if not wanting to download. Please.
Yes, I don't mean a detailed list of changes made to a game when updated, but rather just some sort of list of updates to the game on my shelf. For example - 10th March 2015: Added Linux Installer. 12th March 2015: Windows Installer updated to version 2.0.1; includes updated game version. Something like that so we don't have to keep checking the forums to see what's been updated/added.
In service of GOG remaining lightweight, a detailed changelog of release notes (e.g., "changed the damage on weapon X from 9 to 10") right on the game's listing in the library isn't necessary, but what I think most would agree would be helpful is pointing out or highlighting the file/downloadable that was updated. When a game shows as updated, and I look at the versions of the installers to try and figure out if the game itself was updated or not, it's a drag. Either highlight the file that was updated, or add a "last updated" date to each file that we can see at a glance.
@Tekkaman-James: alburl doesn't just mean update flags. He wants quick access to a textual explanation of what changed within the updated files.
(Basically, he wants something like a hover/click popup/slide-out panel containing the text that you currently have to check the forum update announcements to see)
As an addition, I usually keep my games in list mode rather than bookshelf, but the button that is supposed to filter the updated games doesn't work in list, just bookshelf. It would be nice if I didn't have to switch to quickly see what has been updated.
Would be fine. Good idea.
Prior to the site redesign, the game shelf DID tell you what was changed or added to your updated games. Since it was able to do so before, it has to be capable of doing it again. Please make this happen, GOG!
Please do!
It would be very useful.
I sometimes miss updates and it would be nice if there was log of what changed between checks.
Also allow us to switch off notifications per-platform and per-language.
For 5 years I've wished and waited for this obviously necessary feature.
Whenever something in my library is updated, I hit the relevant forum. I get that GOG is purposefully lightweight, but it seems weird to offload posting patch notes to your users.
This is one of the biggest gripes with the updating system on gog.
Definitely a must! This would save time and confusion for *all* of GOG's users, which (if you think about it) is a whole bunch of confusion being added to the planet in tiny pockets around the world. We could do with such a blessing about now.
Yup, we have long needed a running changelog right in the game info in the library. Why this needs to be pointed out is anyone's guess. Seems like this should be sensible enough.
