You have probably found the solution but just in case. If you can't play full screen anymore just use safe mode. It will be the original pixel format, but hey its full screen ;)

If I recall correctly, Tomb Raider 1 runs in Dosbox, so in most cases some mucking about in the config file can solve most problems like these.
For me, TR was one of the few Dosbox games that ran fine with the standard settings, though.
