Ok, so the remaster has a screenshot mode, but ... how to actually make screenthots?

There is no ingame function and when using Galaxy the key only works if overlays are active, which in this case is not possible.

The problem: When in photo mode, the screnshot key in Steam also switches betwen "normal" classic display mode and 3dfx mode, which stays active until you switch back to modern display mode.

Since we have no key from Galaxy, we can't activate this mode in TR.

The screenshot key on Steam can be changed (is in the client's options).

As for Galaxy I have no idea.

Does the Print Screen key on the keyboard work? Might be worth a try.

Someone told me that on Steam this would work with any key he set up for screenshots.


It's the game that reacts to the Steam function. When you press the key with Steam overlay active, then the game gets a message from Steam and reacts accordingly.

*WIthout launcher (in other words: offline playing), there is no such message.

*On Galaxy the Overlay mode apparently does not work, so Galaxy can't make screenshots either.

And I assume, that Tomb Raider does not get the message because of that. Of course it could also be that Galaxy never sends a message in the first place.

Without that message, the "3dfx mode" (actually it's just biliniear filtering, apart from that it has nothing to do with 3dfx) does not activate.


The games has optional bilinear filtering in classic mode, we just can't activate it.

Steam are not related to making ingame screenshots if game did have own function for it. You still misunderstood Steam Overlay functionality. Its not related to game and game not related to overlay.


Same for GOG Galaxy last time i use it, but maybe changed. Galaxy unlike Steam functionalities more tied to games and games galaxy-integration more tied to Galaxy. In theory they can share screenshots function.

Update: Contradicting the person who told me that he was able to do this in the final version of the game, the game tester who wrote the article confirmed now that while it was possible in his test version, he can't reproduce it with the current Steam version.
So maybe the first guy told me something wrong and it's not possible at all.

In any case ... the render engine CAN do it. Maybe if we keep asking nicely for it, we get the functionality.

Wich game/ver/release? And again ingame screens? For overlays nowadays overlays require at least d3d9 game render and some minimal resolution. Cant say for sure specific.

Ingame screens function can work wrong at some specific resolutions or some specific option. Try antialiasing, shadows or something to maximise/minimasi/on/off.
Its general for games since its unclear which game we talk about since its something related to "3dfx render" (what is that exactly? It cant be real 3dfx render).

Remaster on PC technically one game once again. And yet game specific... Have switcher between modern and old [Software\low-bitness] modes (depend on game). What is 3dfx?

The game does not have a ingame key for it, as I see it. Just the photo mode, but without an option to actually make a screenshot.

Of course it's not real 3dfx, the Voodoo card could never do these resolutions and I doubt that emulators would do so.

But in the article they called it that and I kept the term. It's the classic mode with bilinear filtering.

On this video there is:
- 3 overlays injectors shown - Steam, NV Experience and some another one;

- ingame buildin switcher between Modern and Classic GFX which represent Software mode more looks like. This one more brightned looking.
Its one of F## key on keyboard do that. F12? If same set to be used on Steam Overlay for screenshots you need rebind it temporary to another one or you get too much screens after game closed. At other point there is Steam screenshots menu appeared after game close where you can easily remove all created screens in one click inetead of upload them.

This GFX mode been more brightned needed to find some secret areas... and even normal areas. New Modern mode a bit too much darkened.
At least for Tomb Raider 1 its seems some non-secreg areas supposed to be more lightened than more darkened.

(and yes. Its not 3dfx render. Nor nowadays developer and of course never gaming-media reviewer able to see a difference and know what is 8/16/32 bit colors, 3dfx, d3d and etc and etc - game devs can use such term as advertise method, gaming media just are lamers as they always been)

As for screenshots. Maybe Remaster really ridnt have such an build-in feature and so Steam Overlay or Windows PrintScreen (PrntScr keyboard button) or 3rd party downloads is only options. For GOG-Galaxy and Galaxy versions is possible only if both game have 100% support of Galaxy Overlay as an online version features and Galaxy client have 100% game support. In short - if Store page says there is Galaxy Overlay support.
But i dodnt remember screenshots function. Never really used Galaxy for overlays. I use it as optional 3rd party launcher for manually added game links. As Library. Not as real launcher. I keep use GOG (aka offline) versions to install and add them as non-GOG games to Galaxy.

F-Keys work for activating photo mode and the classic render, but not for taking a screenshot or switching to bilinear filtering.

Galaxy Overlay seems to cause problems currently and has been deactivated for the game.


As I said, first I thought (due to wrong information), the bilinear filter on GOG was missing due to the missing connectivity with Galaxy for screenshots. But as it turns out, they removed the option to switch the filtering on completely. With some luck they'll bring it back at some point, apparently a lot of people are asking for it.

the thing is and was stated that to Take a screen shot you need to use your operating systems built in feature for this. In windows it is the "windows key, Plus the Prt Sc keys" then those shots are located in your Pictures\Screenshots folder.

Wow, thanks for succinctly wording this. I knew the "Prt Sc" or "Prnt" key copied the screen to memory to later be pasted into Paint or Photoshop, etc. --- but I didn't know "Windows Key" + "Prnt" stored it in the folder you mentioned! I learned something, yay! ...and ty!
