when I try to start Outcast, it plays the intro, then starts the launcher, but if I click 'new game' I get a popup saying 'OUTCAST DVD missing. Please insert DVD : DATA'
I checked the Outcast.ini, and it does mention the right path to the Data folder (dvd_path=B:\Games\Outcast\Data)
I suppose I could make an iso containing the content of the Data folder, mount it in daemon tools and change the path to the virtual disk, but I'm kind of confused as to why it doesn't work in the first place.
EDIT1: the iso thing works. So for those suffering from a similar problem, this is a viable temporary fix.
EDIT2: another option for those running Vista/Win7 is to make a symbolic link to the data folder on another partition and point the ini there
EDIT3: FIXED! Thanks GOG! (see solution)

Its a long shot but try to start your game "as administrator". Also please send a ticket to our tech support with dxdiag as a attachment.

LordCinnamon: EDIT: iso trick works, so the problem seems to be that the game refuses to recognize the Data folder as a disc. Why and why only for me? I do not know.

Did you try to install it on other drive than "B:\"? It might be an issue here.

Navagon: I'm having the same problem. Only it's asking me to insert the... hard drive. Yeah. Anyway, run as admin doesn't help here.

Please send us support tickets with your DxDiags so we can look deeply into that problem.
Hi Guys!
We have done some late night research of this problem, and it turns out, that this is somehow connected to the partition's name, for some magical reason...
The temporally fix for that is this:
1. Go to the game's main folder, find the "OUTCAST.ini" file and open it using any text editor (notepad will do).
2. Find the following lines:
cd_intro_label=DATA
cd_music_label=DATA
and delete the part after the "=" sign:
cd_intro_label=
cd_music_label=
Note that the "DATA", in the above example, can be anything, it is just the name of your partition.
3. Save the file
4. run the game
5. ??????
6. PROFIT!!!!
Let us know if this fix works for you (preferably both, here in this thread and by sending a Support ticket along) and we'll update our installer so that you won't have to go through all this trouble in the future. ;)
