I just tried to read Atrus' Journal and i'm having a weird issue.
Thing is, i can't flip just one page. A click on any page will cause two pages to flip, meaning some pages are skipped entirely and impossible to read.
I don't recall ever having this problem with the CD or DVD version of Riven, so i'm wondering if anybody else is experiencing this one, and naturally, i'm also wondering if there's a fix.
I'm on Win7 64bit.
Thanks.

I'm having exactly the same problem. The journal is unreadable due to this issue.

Ah, so it's not just at my end. I was wondering if this could be a Win7 problem, but i've read on the other thread you're on Vista, so it's not OS specific.
I have no idea what's causing this, so i really don't know how to fix this one...
same problem here. i am sometimes able to flip one page forward by sheer luck alone. majority of the time it's 2 pages per click.
XP Home Edition SP3 (32bit)

2GB RAM
didn't bother opening up a support ticket...

try clicking on the left hand side page as I found one of the books during the game opened at the last page
edit, yes I see what you mean I had to do it several times to get the the first page.
Not sure why the journal is opening half through the book also.

I was having this problem as well but it wasn't as bad as you describe. Mine only did it maybe half the time, so it was just a matter of clicking back and forth until I got to the page I wanted. It was annoying, but I got through it.
I imagine one could these journals on the web, or a decent video with readable text if you can't read them in-game.
My best results came when I clicked on just the edge of the page and quickly moved my mouse outside of the clickable area. That way if it tried to register a second click, it wouldn't activate anything. It didn't always work, but it seemed to help some.

Well, at my end it is as bad as i describe, and it's all the time. I can't read some pages no matter how many times i go back and forth on the pages, and trust me, i've tried.
Both Cathereine's and Gehn's Journals ocasionally display the same issue. With those it doesn't happen all the time and when it does going back and forth gets me to the right page, so no problem there, but Atrus' Journal is unreadable as it is.
I tried your trick, clicking just on the edge of the hotspot and moving the mouse away. It's not working for me, two pages get flipped just the same regardless of where i move the cursor to after clicking.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
If you don't want to settle for just text, there are a couple of sites with full "scans" of all the journals:
This one has them as just a series of images: http://home.comcast.net/~dni-books/Riven/RivenJournals.htm
This one has them kind of as a flash thing with a page turn sound effect: http://www.l7square.com/journals/
Otherwise here is a text version: http://en.mystlore.com/wiki/Riven_Journal
(Also, to anybody looking to use these in the future, any numbers in these journals are generated newly when you start the game, so you'll have to check your in-game versions for those)

Hi,
Certainly a good way of getting around the issue for newcomers to the series who don't know the Journal's content and happen to be experiencing the issue.
I'm aware of the Journal's content though, and what i'm looking for is a way to fix the issue with gog's version, as i want to rely solely on gog's version to play Riven and forget all about the CD and DVD versions, and while i can live with the other 2 or 3 very minor quirks of gog's version, this one really bothers me.
In any case, i've marked your post as the solution as it contains very useful info to newcomers to the game/series in regards to this issue.
Maybe in time a proper fix will turn up.
Thanks ;)
I've found that if you click on the edges, it moves two pages. Click closer to the middle, and it will just advance one. Maybe that's a feature of the game?

I'm under the impression i clicked everywhere when i was trying to figure out the problem, but i'll try your suggestion. Thanks.
It's defnitely not a feature. I have the DVD version installed on another machine and no problems of any kind with the Journal in question.
I'm having the same problem on win XP.
I don't know why the issue is marked solved.
I found out this trick:
click an hold,
wait for 2 pages to flip
release. it should flip one more.
now if you flip back, it should go 2 pages, as usual :P
so you just managed to flip only one page :D.
Yeah actually, I'd prefer that this issue be marked unsolved until the powers that be look at it, seems like a bug in the game that ought to be patched
I marked it solved because even if the issue itself wasn't fixed, the info on Luigi's post might prove usefull to those who never played the game before and have no idea where to get an alternate way of reading the journal, but yeah, the issue itself isn't solved and that's pretty obvious for anybody who bothers reading the thread.
In any case, i sent a ticket to support for this issue cause i also would like a proper fix. There's nothing stopping you guys from doing the same and/or opening a new thread for the same issue seing as the 'solution' in this case is not a real one, just one i thought it would prove usefull to some.
Has anyone considered this may be due to syncing dual cores?
