According to wikipedia, 3DO released Arcomage as a standalone game. Is that still available somewhere. Google search found some re-makes, but I'm interested in the original made by 3DO.

3DO is bankrupt since 2003 and the game isn't sold anymore. The rights ownership is unclear but as a budget release it's often considered abandonware now (e.g. here), especially as the community remakes don't own the rights to do so either. You know the discussion about this yourself, it's a gray area.

Thanks, I tried it, but it's a very bad remake.

Guess I'll have to wait for a second hand copy on amazon or ebay, or try the abandonware like DeMignon suggested (and buy as soon as it appears somewhere).
