I got an email today advertising Mega Man X on the WiiWare VC store, for 800 points. That's $8 USD. Not a whole lot, right? It's actually far too much, when you consider that the Mega Man X Collection sells for $20. Disregarding the fact that $20 is the reduced "out-of-print" price, it's still too much. The original MMX Collection price was $39.99, if I remember, and six games $40 divides evenly to around $6.50, or 650 points.

Yes, Nintendo, I understand you've had a tough fiscal year, but when has anyone ever recouped losses by overcharging? Besides Apple. And AT&T. And maybe the the cinema snack bar industry.

Wii ware is incredibly expensive, you can´t pay that kind of prices for 20 year old games... And who can assure us that the Wii ware games will be compatible with the new Nintendo console? In Europe we pay the same prices... in euros :-(

That was explained many times by GOG crew on the forums, the publishers are the ones that decide the prices (between 5,99 and 9,99). GOG many times recommend lower prices to them.

The Man's in charge of that, naturally. The only way to oppose him is to act all rad and maybe do something inconsiderate (as long as it doesn't go too far).

Renting a movie for 24 hours can cost up to $8 here. Maybe more but that's the highest I've seen. Anyway, those prices are for people with the moneys and the meh-whatevers.

Trying to apply teh smarts into comparisons of bundle prices and single product prices is a sure way to get a headache. I've seen C&C3 for $50 and "all the C&Cs ever including C&C3" bundle thing for $25 on the same shelf (at the same time) in a store.

You're reading this too literally. I'm saying that they're charging nearly as much for a 20 year old game (rounded number) as they are for a modern game like Contra Rebirth, which costs $10/1000 points. Consider that Sega sells their Genesis classics on Steam for three bucks a pop. That's a fiver less than what Nintendo is charging for a virtual SNES cartridge. With five dollars I could get a gallon of gas or a pack of cigarettes. Or I could use three of those five and get another game!

I can get Alpha Protocol in any (brick and mortar) store for 5 euros, but Steam is still leasing it to people for 30 euros. Is that because they thought long and hard on what a fair price would be?
No, it's simply because they feel they can squeeze that out of people.
Several times companies have decided when their product was faulty that it was cheaper to pay the grieving families than it was to recall the product.

I know you were being sarcastic... but I'm always amazed at people complaining about prices of things that I can buy with change from my couch... and I live on student loans and haven't worked in three years.

By the way, I know you are from the Netherlands so I am not sure if your great nation has been sparred the horror that is Pizza Hut... but I'd much rather have Settlers 2 than two medium 3 topping pizzas :-)

Virtual Console prices have been set in stone since it launched unfortunately. While some SNES/GEN titles are well worth $8 others are way too expensive. Especially beat em ups that only last 30 mins and games that are much cheaper on collections(like the Genesis, Metal Slug, etc games).

It's not just the price which is too high, it's a complete pain to transfer the games from Wii to Wii, in fact they won't let you do it yourself, they have to do the transfer for you, which means no backups, if your console dies you're more or less screwed.

Or at least that's my understanding of it, I haven't been in that situation yet, and I buy so few of them that I don't think any of my money has been put into Wiiware.

Well with the eight dollars you would save buy not buying it, you could get a gallon of gas OR a pack of cigarettes AND get another game.

Maybe one of us could give you another dollar. Then you could buy three other games. You wouldn't get gouged by Nintendo. You wouldn't fill your lungs with tar. You wouldn't put another gallon of emissions into the atmosphere.
