indeed stonebro :)
so it shows how much they cared for the war.
after the truce the received orders from upper hand to attack the trenches and they killed/got killed within 24h after partying together.
Firstly, why every company insists on creating a World War II game. Its overdone, its been said many times before, you would think they would understand.
Everybody and their grandparents know the setting and nazi's are good enemy. Nobody will rise any fuzz when you kill nazis.
Why Bethesda even tries anymore.
'cause $$$ or £££ or €€€. Take your pick.
Why I never remember the name of the main character in a game (I didn't know my name was Jack or whatever in Bioshock until the end)
Somedays I don't even remember my own name so the name of "hero" is insignificant.
What the songs "Viva la Vida", "Speed of Sound" and "Werewolves of London" are about.
Nevahööd them so I just guess they are about eternal love and friendship of eagles.
How Family Guy made it to Season 8.
Somebody will allways love slapstick
How Scrubs made it to Season 8.
How The Simpsons made it to season 100000000000000000.
'cause it's teh Simpsons.
Yeah, theres a lot of confusing things.
Yes, like can you put socks in wrong legs, when the sock looking like each other. Also why I'm trying desperately to sound even remotely fynnu when I actually are not.

stonebro: The most famous incident occurred all over the western frontlines at christmas day 1914, when several spontaneous truces broke out independent of eachother. Soldiers from the British and German armies met up in the middle of no-man's land, where they sang christmas songs and consumed alcohol together.

There's alreay a game sort of about that in a very vague way
They have tried WWI game before. It sucked. Hard.

Catshade: They have tried WWI game before. It sucked. Hard.

Yeah but that game would likely have sucked regardless of the chosen war

Aliasalpha: How about classical egyptian metal?

Bronze?
Is there any war (major or minor from history), which has yet to receive the game treatment? Or that could do with a good version, where all we have gotten was a poorly received title?
We have a lot of medieval war games, but the next stop is usually WW1&2 with a few inbetween. The tech levels (and I feel silly saying that) may of advanced slow during that break period, but it looks like an area that has not been franchised to death and back yet.
(not that I want it to happen, or that I have much interest in war games)

CyPhErIoN: and who do you think puts those things on google :)

You mean to say that Google is not an AI that creates it's own material out of benevolence for humankind? ;p
World War I would make a good cover-based strategy game.
Seriously, the big problem with WWI is that the technology was so imbalanced. Offense greatly outstripped defense. this problem began in the mid-19th century with late Civil War battlefields resembling the WWI trenches, but since most western warfare after that was limited to imperial actions against overmatched opponents, no one really noticed.
After World War II, technology reaches the point where it can overshadow the human element. WWII is a sweet spot for handling in a game. And as has been stated, you can't go wrong making your enemies the Nazis.

The American Civil War is pretty popular, particularly Gettysburg, but there are wargames for practically all the major engagements. In fact, wargamers seem to really like the Napoleanic era; the units fit neatly on the map. It's not an era that lends itself to FPSs very well. There's been some wargames about the American Revolution as well, but not nearly as many.
The problem with doing anything else is the size of the audience that would be interested in the setting. Not enough people know much about the War of 1812 or the English Civil War. You stand a better chance releasing a game about some obscure battle in China because anything non-European at least has the built-in geek multiplier.

I meant/would say that common knowledge these days is the knowledge put in wiki's and google ads by serious people and less serious people.
This means that if this continuous for 50 years , who will know what really happened and what didn't. I personally believe that historie is a bunch of crap that a few people agreed on hundreds of years ago.
For exemple : Hannibal travelled with 40 elephants across the alps. I will never know that for sure will i? Because it was written down by someone? That was his version and some select people agreed that it was true and now they still teach that to us.
I know it sounds nuts but i actually only believe what i experienced myself.
Try telling a story/gossip to someone and after 2 days hear the story somewhere in a barbershop.
If the story was about a guy that cut his finger then i'm sure, after 2 days, the guy will be decapitated.

Yes there is. I really wish to see a well made game about the war in Somalia. Black Hawk Down was a very good book, an entertaining movie, but the only game we have based on it is Delta Force, and I personally couldn't force myself through 2 scenarios.

What was all that stuff about the trenches in the Ardennes then?

The 2 Boer Wars? The Siege of Mafeking could be interesting, a game of misdirection and resource management so you can put up the appearance of strong defence while keeping your very limited troops in critical locations
All of you of course know that the static trench war was only on the western front and in Alps (but less) ? In the eastern front, Africa and Asia the Great War looked quite differently with the eastern front being the most exciting. ;)
But I'm curious about one thing. Why aren't there any new games like Fighting Steel or Harpoon? That's interesting because all people would like to drive flotillas of steel behemoths into combat. Wouldn't you? Exactly. So why they don;t make such games? If I could participate in a Battle of Tsushima I... I... I'd just explode with enthusiasm!
