Well, the $10 Civ 4 complete sold me. I also picked up indigo prophecy for a few bucks. I know Civ 5 is coming out, but $10 for the whole thing isn't bad.

lukaszthegreat: you make 4 dollars an hour???

Titanium: If not USA; AUS; GB
then exe "Welcome to the real world"

UNLESS you want to buy games online for a decent price
avatar
lowyhong: Yeah but on the upside, I get to choose when I want to work. Very flexible working hours. Couldn't find any other job like that, that paid more than $4.

akwater: I know some women in Thailand, and in the Philippines who might disagree with you :P

I think I saw a rather explicit documentary about them a while back

Aye. When I was in Indonesia for a holiday, the cab drivers there will ferry you around the place for an entire day for only USD15. Imagine how much they'll earn without the tourists.

22. There are jobs that pay SGD6-8 per hour, but they're desk admin jobs and I only have a month to work, so most have refused to employ me. Besides, I've got other things going on throughout the week to commit for this last month anyway.

Gundato: [...]

Whoa, chill, mate!
I wasn't denying anything you said, let alone trying to offend you. Please read my post before reacting so insulted! I clearly stated who I think are the brainwashed sheep, and I don't think one can argue with that reasoning.
There is nothing to confuse between Steam and my DRM rant, because it's exactly the same thing. Steam is just a different outlet (with additional issues, yes), but it doesn't make the things some publishers do less bad or less worthy of badmouthing just because it's a download store.
Also, prices have been jumping up and down all the time for me since the switch to Euro prices about two years ago. Mostly during sales, but not exclusively. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been annoyed with this for quite a while now.

Gundato: The fluctuation only really occurs around when the sales go live, and that might be a matter of propagating the updated data. As for the TWEE:DC price increasing, I suspect that was intentional :p

Hey, Gundato, do you suppose it's possible that it is a marketing tool? A means to keep people visiting their site - and also at the same time discouraging ban-sama's price scraping tool? Not to mention the arbitrary product number/ProductID changes.
Too bad I missed out on the 1C bundle deal for $20. It's $50 more now.
I guess SELECT * FROM db WHERE Publisher = '1C' UPDATE discount(.75);
doesn't work when your base 1C pack price is $79.95. (D'oh!) Here's hoping they screw up again!

Wouldn't that be "UPDATE db SET discount = .75 WHERE publisher = '1C' " ?
Come on steamy, why don't you want to sell me these games. *hick*
So, I got to hit you, is that it? Why do you make me hit you?
Just ACCEPT THE DAMN PAYPAL BITCH
What you say officer? Oh no, just a small technical glitch. I'm fine. <cries>
Anyone else having this problem?

Titanium: Anyone else having this problem?

If you're trying to pay for discounted Steam games with Paypal, you need to have the full (undiscounted) amount in your account prior, even though only the discounted price will be deducted. It's been a known issue for years. Maybe that's what holding you back.

I sincerely doubt it has anything to do with didimatic (or whatever his site is called :p) or to keep people going to the Steam site. They have no ads and you already default to there from the client.
The only time you really want to force people to use your site is if you have ads (ad-revenue). Otherwise, more traffic tends to be bad :p. That is why RSS-feeds and the like are so popular. It minimizes traffic. If anything, I suspect Valve like didiomatic and the like. Gets their sales out there while minimizing bandwidth costs. I doubt they want it to replace them, but if people use that to browse the catalogue, it is cheaper. Make people come to the site to get suckered in by the fancy pictures and the like, but allow things like didomatic to exist to let people browse the non-front-page part of the sale
Nah, I suspect it is either that the deal regarding the sale was special for the games that fluctuated (like TWEE) had different deals regarding the sale. Or it is a way to discourage all of us who are waiting until July 4th to make our non-24 Hour purchases. Probably the latter.
avatar
Titanium: Nope, that can't be it. Well, maybe for paypal, but I used VISA electron as well, and it also bounced. Money's good, the bank said there's no problem from their side, and it's a small purchase. It's a gift, and I made quite a few gifts these days, so maybe they're blocking me? Anyway, I sent them a support question, let's see what happens.
Edit: Just made a purchase on gog, works like a charm.

Ah-ha, I knew I'd find another DB programmer in here. I must admit, SQL92 (or whatever) isn't my strong point, since I don't work with it everyday. I only work with 4GL, which is why my query seemed odd.
Not by my choice, though, our vendor has locked us into this DB. Good times. Thanks for the update on UPDATE!

That happens with GBP too. From what I've heard it's a universal problem. Not that it makes it any better, mind.
Already got it retail (not really something I play enough to warrant a re-buy) but OFP: Dragon Rising for 5 bucks.
If you liked the old Delta Force games, you'll love it.
The Oddworld pack for 2 is nice, I guess, and the ToMI 8.50 sale is raining on Telltale's $20 ToMI sale, but Telltale's also throwing in The Penal Zone and a hard copy for the price of shipping. The rest gets a meh from me.
And no, I didn't buy that Civ pack. I'll probably regret it later, but meh. The retail version is only missing Colonisation... [/sour-grapes]
