It would only work if you also had a US based billing address for the payment method. If your billing method doesn't match with the country that Steam thinks you're in, purchasing won't be possible.
I don't know what server I was connected to as the downloader is very light on features.
Generally, if it's slow on GamersGate, it's either due to high load or you being on the servers furthest from you.

You installed the game from the discs? Thats just wrong. :) Use the serial to register SC to your Battle.Net account, then from there you can download the most recent installer that was made for SC. Its version 15.1 or something. After installation, log on to bnet from the game to download the latest patch to get the game up to date and insure compatibility with Games Explorer for Windows Vista and Windows 7.
By the way, which OS are you playing it on?

You don't even need to logon to Battle.net from inside the game, I download the game yesterday and it was directly the last version : 1.15.2. Another good thing is that the downloaded version is DRM-free.

XP, currently (hoping to buy a Windows 7 laptop soon). Hence, no problems with the actual disc and no Games Explorer to worry about. (I prefer the Steam client for game organising duty, but that's just my option) When I did install it, I headed to in-game Battle.net, where I was hoping to get the download version. After patching up, I was presented with a warning that upon registration I must put 2 hours in my first 48 hours after registering, or they'll nuke my account. Since I've literally just bought StarCraft, ergo I would get my ass handed to on a platter, I backed out.
Later on, I found out that the download stuff requires an account in Battle.net 2.0 (large difference. Battle.net 1.0 is the in-game online service for the pre-WoW Blizzard games, similar to WormNET in Worms Armageddon & World Party), which I have created and registered the game. The original install is OK, however, so I haven't bothered testing the download yet. Yet to find the options menu, however, and I'm craving a fiddle with the options menu (rule no.1 for any software: fiddle with the options).

Thats not the latest version. 1.61.1 is and it can be obtained only via the in-game battle.net. :)

I have the discs too, but I prefer to install it via the downloadable installer, mainly because its more up to date, and I use Windows 7 x64. But if you're on XP, thats probably not necessary. Anyway, have fun with the game. :)

One thing though, I've seen different websites offering different changelogs for this patch, and also some of them have it labeled differently, some "patch 16", some "patch 1.161"... so it would probably be best to download it through the game.

Half the public internet is unavailable to me, either the ISP broke a config in a switch somewhere, a router is dying, or a cable has been cut by someone digging at the wrong place.
First I thought my connection had gone down and the computer was just late to realise that, then there was a new message on IRC, so I was definitely online. Switching the DNS settings back to automatic seemingly made it work, so I thought maybe OpenDNS had broken, asking on #gog made apparent that it was just me that couldn't access their servers, either by hostname or IP address.
Often I can access the main domain of a site, while others like image & css hosting or ad networks are broken, making the browser stall while it tries to access those servers before timing out. Luckily GOG, quakenet, and freenode are fine :-)

Currently Duels of the Planeswalkers works for me, but the registration doesn't, so of course I get told to contact Wizards support, and of course they don't help me get the voucher to take into the store which is 20 minutes away for the promotion. What they do however is mail me the card, internationally, clear to the other side of North America. So of course I don't actually have the card yet, and apparently they aren't giving me the deck that you get with the card for the promotion.
Other than that the game works fine for me.

Check My Games on your account and see if there is a manual. If not, checked the installed directory for it. If THAT doesn't work, google the .pdf file on the web. Good luck.

Please just provide a game manual for the product I just bought. I could have gone into a store and gotten a hard copy, but this just seemed easier. But no manual for a strategy game? That's not easier ... it's a PITA.
