Well finished the game , story was alright but i was expecting them to end linear world by at least letting us explore the world after the final mission but meh. Had a ton of audio lag and stuttering issues despite the patches , will wait for a while till modders get to the game better.

Sigh i wish they would just continue the freaking story from shadowrun snes with jake directly , after the berlin dlc they go back to what killed FASA in 2007 , trying to make shadowrun a mmo , might work considering how mmos are popular now

The editor is really set up in such a way that a large open world game is literally a series of endless pains in the ass. They say they are adding to the functionality for the next campaign, which is good. I think they just had limited time with the first release.
That was my immediate thoughts as well. Even if an open-world module (or official expansion) for SRR got made, it would just be an endless number of instanced maps and loading screens. Without much bigger maps and some kind of travel map for the city, it would just be annoying. Sad fact is that the game looks like it was built specifically for linearity.

Shadowrun Online is made by a different company (Cliffhanger Productions). I wouldn't really say it's an MMO, more like a cooperative game close in concept to Shadowrun Return, where the world changes over time.
Well, I'm glad I haven't bought it

i am not talking about skyrim sized open world , just any size of world that can be roamed freely for grinding and learning about whats going on in the shadowrun universe and you can jump to the story missions when you want. The snes version could do it in a size of cartridge :( , just play this mod , if these guys can support a roaming open world in a mod i dont see why not.

Its just about having to think outside the box, during the snes days they could not have instant saves so they came up with idea of a putting a bed where you could save at any time and manage karma.
In Shadowrun returns there is not even a single place where you can rest and heal up, if you dont have medikits, your wounds will carry on to the battle.

Maybe im comparing too much to the snes version damn i wish that game was released just as it was....

just in case anyone wanting a not so linear , a little roaming version , check this mod out

not sure if it works on drm free version though

Also planning to do another run as a different char when these stuttering issue are fixed lmao it was too easy picking the rifle and maxing out the skills for it and decking secondary , most of the times there weren't any enemy who could survive a 3 round attack by me even till the end hahaha

The small bit I played of the SNES remake was terrible precisely because they are trying to force an exact replica into an engine designed for a different game.

It's not this super easy thing to say "the SNES can do open worlds of course the PC can in 2013." It's all about engines, scripting, asset creation and whatever else. I've messed with the editor, I created a mission, I can tell you the thing was not designed to make an open world. Some mods are doing it, and good on them for trying, but so far all of them feel like they are forcing the engine and editor to do things it wasn't designed to do, to its detriment.

The "Lost Lamb" mod was probably the best at showing how a more open hub area can work with this toolset, but one of the reasons it worked is because it was short and simple.
Game is somewhat buggy, with unbalanced classes and the story is mediocre and not too long. There will be some mods in a moment which should make this game live longer. Anyway, strong 7/10 for a cyberpunk fan.
Im starting to hate the unity engine , :X decided to remove the game and wait for some mods to come out later, but on the srr forums they have found that it does not matter if you remove the game or not , unity will be dumping a lot of cache in your windows user folder , mine was filled 4.7gb of crap have to remove it manually or install unity web player .

so if you are wondering suddenly why there is less space check out this folder location

Damn... Fron what I hear/read this game is riddled with bad choices...
1. We don't get a DRM-Free version.
2. You get a linear game.
3. Bugs and optimization issues.
4. Game clearly made with tablets in mind(should have been a different version for tablets and for PC).
5. Unity sucks

Anything you'd like to add? I Want to really like this game and go buy it(yes even on Steam), but everything I read stops me from doing it, do the devs really promised to deliver a better product as time goes on? Or should I just wait?

if you are not one of the hardcore die hard fans like us who were waiting for a shadowrun game ever since the ending in snes shadowrun said so.
Wait out for a steam sale, the game should be fixed by then + Berlin dlc and tons of user created story mods, right now each and every patch seems to break either other game mechanics or mods.

Adding to more unity woes , every unity patch will be a minimum of 250mb no matter how small the fixes are , you can check the patch notes.
They added steam cards ....stuttering still exists , unity still dumps crap on the hdd. I really want to play a 4th finish of the game with a different char but the combat is so limited aka its fixed path so no grinding you exactly know how much you can max out your char , the max money you get :(

sigh.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PnrIlyZpM8 feels like last month

The mods are shaping up to be awesome http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse?searchtext=&childpublishedfileid=0&section=items&appid=234650&browsesort=toprated&requiredtags%5B0%5D=story&browsefilter=toprated&p=1

Wow just wow saw the live stream today apparently after hearing the fans feedback they have decided to "make" Berlin dlc more shadowrun like aka not so single path "so it was just more linear before that " and "try " to match the initial example campaign size Lol . This just a huge disappointment. They will also try to look into save at will thingy
They have already moved on to going for another kickstarter and another game development.

Wait in for the backer reviews of the dlc before buying it , since they get it free
Karma as in shadowrun goes both ways good and evil.....wait for the kickback

only god should imagine if the fans kept slient what the game would be like, here are the new improved features
"
-A more flexible main story arc – choose which runs to complete first, and which factions to complete objectives for
More depth to the NPC runner characters
-New weapons, outfits, portraits, music, and enemies – including more magical creatures
-Improved Physical Adept gameplay – along with additions for some of the other existing archetypes
-A European city with a very different look, “vibe”, and cast of characters
-A story that highlights the compelling themes of the Shadowrun: Germany sourcebook"
