The updates tell you not to power down your PS3 during the process. If you take that advice you should be fine.

KneeTheCap: one more question, what's with the reports that the new firmware update can cause overheating? Is it just some sort of misunderstanding or something?
I've never heard of that. There are some games I've heard that cause overheating with PS3 fatties if they're played for extended periods(LA Noire was one, don't remember any others).

I mostly use PSN to grab PSN/PS1 games that interest me, of which now I delete my info after purchase. And sometimes do some multiplayer.
