I love RPGs. There are so many poorly reviewed ones that I love too. But to say Two Worlds is "good" is really not fair to the customer who is going by the GoG community's opinion on whether to buy the game.
This game is terrible to mediocre. (depending on the person's tolerance). Nothing about this game is "good". Bad voice acting, terrible story, lack atmosphere, uninspired and unoriginal quests, lack of difficulty and a ton of other issues make this game pretty bad. If you are seriously desperate to run around in a fairly nice looking and varied world and just mindlessly kill stuff then buy the game. But for everybody else, spend your time elsewhere.
I see it like this. Open world RPGs and even RPGs in general are sometimes hard to come by in a world full of shooters and action games so us RPG lovers sometimes take whatever we can get our hands on and force ourselves to enjoy it all. But if there were the amount of RPGs that there are FPS games then this game would be the Daikatana of RPGs. (Minus all the drama and hype of Daikatana :P)

Well I just bought it, I loved Gothic games and am curious about this, even if I am not going to play it right away (or ever, maybe, since I have about 50 games in my backlog already).

No. The game is very good. The voice acting is bad, but all the rest is very good. As for why you don't like it, I don't care, but to claim truth by saying the game is not good, is a lie.
Here's a good depiction of the VA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44uiY0neFro&hd=1
Hahah.

The sad thing is the real thing is worse than this mix.

Yeah.
If GoG was supposed to put only games everyone believes to be good here, they would go down VERY quickly. And if the'd put up only games that are believed to be good by almost half of gamers? Well, they would go down a bit slower :D I for one am really curious about it and wish to try it, the only reason I did not really play it on release were bugs.

I just dont understand what is good about it. It's simply mediocre. It does nothing a million other games don't do.
Maybe I came off a bit strong in my opinion of it's quality but i'm just trying to present another side of the game that many of the posters seem to be hiding. It feels as if any game can be released on GoG and it all of a sudden makes the game good.
Looks interesting, I think I will wait for a sale though. Too many games to play presently to buy more to stick in the cue to gather dust (well, virtual dust anyway!). :o)
It looks like these large open games have three features:
Hack and slash + loot
Total freedom/sim (be a baker, be a fisherman . . . )
Strong story but with lots of flexibility
Of course most come in a mixture of the three ( with the 3rd being a minority) and two worlds seems to come in more on the hack and slash side and I pretty much exhausted my mindless hack and slash urge with diablo 2 (lost 2 years of my life to that game).
I suppose my ideal game of this type would be one with a good, strong central story, lots of customisation and weapons with fun combat, with many opportunities to pause during the main quest and have a little random fun.
From what I have read Rissen seems to be the best choice for me as it is modern and sounds like it has more structure and story to it.
Fallout 3 was pretty fun, though I found it a bit empty, looked and sounded like fallout but didn't play or read like fallout. Such little depth to the story. I also played Morrowind and once I learned the game mechanics and stole some glass armour and a daedric batlith I tried installing lots of mods, spent like 3 days finding and downloading them, started a new game and got bored.

Yeah I know it's not exactly an RPG, but what you are describing here is Outcast. It was released a bit ago right here on GoG, so take a look at that :-)
Great story-line, writing and characters is included, there's living world, fantastic soundtrack, fun combat where you can choose from stealth or head-on approach... Seriously, game's too good to be true

Most people either love it or hate it. I have played through it twice and loved it. At first I almost stopped after the first hour, too many things going on in the background that you can miss, the more you play the more you see the pure genius of this game.
Of course, you can simply not like it. It's not like everyone has to like it. But at the same time, not everyone has to hate it. My reply was to yours about how we who like it are doing a disservice to others with our comments about how good this game is. Which let's just say I didn't like.
No one is forcing you to like it, just please don't accuse those who like it of doing something bad...

Exactly. I'd jump on this if I didn't already have a hundred games in the backlog....

To be fair, RPGs often share a LOT of similar elements...we like it that way. But the good ones throw in their own special flavor...which some people seem to think this game does.

While this game doesn't really fall into my personal opinion of a 'Good Old Game' I can't ascertain as to how fun/good the gameplay is (haven't played it). The more games GoG gets, the better - though I thought I remembered a podcast interview (Polygamerous?) w/ some of the GoG folks who put a timeline in of 5+ years for age.
I may put this on my wishlist, but its not a purchase right now. I have far far too many games I have started and not finished - quite a few open world RPG's too :/
As for the voice acting, I have seen some YouTube videos on the game - the voice acting reminds me alot of Gothic III... and people seem to like Gothic III just fine right?
