The second point doesn't make much sense to me cause dying in game takes a simple reload, the only issue I can see with real life is that you can't run as much as that guy sitting on the chair over there.
When the Oculus Rift comes out I'll surely be buying it, I might be addicted at first but eventually I'll slow down, healthy eyes always come first. I've had the wish to play Morrowind in a VR for the past 10 years, it will be an amazing experience finally realizing that dream.

Now what I would not mind if they incorporated exercise into games=) I believe there is a kickstarter that involves a multidirectional platform (treadmill like) that you use to move your character around, plus a headset for the vision. Throw in a nifty gun peripheral and you can get all the exercise you want while enjoying your FPS games.
Lol....haha that is what Oculus Rift and Virtuix Omni does...well that is nifty=)

Oculus ran a Kickstarter campaign for the Rift (and got almost ten times their stated goal), and Virtuix should soon launch their campaign for the Omni.

I think Virtual Reality for gaming will never be really successful. Think about all these people which are not fit enough to play such games for example fat gaming nerds. They'll have to move their fat asses out of their seats. That would be irresponsible. xD

Note the full video which is automatically linked on Youtube, more details to see there. And yes, the "getting shot" part is definitely the highlight of this simulator.
Something like this could be great fun, but certainly not for every game (Prince of Persia, anyone?).

1)it would be like dreaming and you wouldn't be moveing
2)your virtual self would be loosly based on your real self. who in the real world could actually take on dragons and such with little to no issues.

I see what you are describing as only happening in a well prepared room.
I think overall, it would be a great way to fight the obesity pandemic many wealthy countries have, but I'm not sure it would take off... people can be very lazy.
I think an immersive experience that would commercially take off would be closer to the matrix.
Somehow though, I don't see them making stuff interact directly with your brain. There would be too much variation between brains and the possibility of brain damage would be very real I think.
I think gaming, at least for the foreseable future, will rely on our natural senses.

Virtual Reality gaming? Reminds me of the good old days when it was all the rage. :D
I didn't expect it to make a comeback so soon though ...
