Right, so, because the world is weird, I've been ignorant to Torchlight for the longest time. When I first saw it, after it'd been first announce, I thought it was just another one of those abysmal indie hack 'n slash games like the ones Meridian4 had been churning out (Space Hack was disappointing, in that "could have been more" way). Then someone tells me "No Way, dude! It's made by some of the guys that were on the Diablo II team!". I was like "WTF! Why wasn't this a superhyped selling point?".

Anyway, after more searching, I found out about Fate, which apparently is supposed to be a "randomly generated dungeon" crawl game, made by a fellow who worked (later) on Hellgate: London and Torchlight. It's also published by WildTangent. I remember first hearing of WildTangent when it was just guys who left Microsoft, or something like that. They made a games plugin for Winamp, which I played with for a while, and then I never saw anything from them again (maybe because I never looked).

Anyway, I'm more interested in the "Randomly generated dungeon" style of play that Fate offers, along with the loot. I've also noticed that there are what are either sequels or expansion packs to the game.

I've looked at WildTangent's download service, and found I would rather play the game from the disc (it looks like I can only "rent" the game from WT, using their silly "WildCoins" thing). Is there a "Boxed set" available? Do the "sequels" include the original game (I wouldn't want to buy both Fate and Fate: Undiscovered Realms and find one was unnecessary)?

I wouldn't worry about getting Fate and Undiscovered realms just go with the

Remember all the versions are standalone

The fate games don't really have a story its all randomized but with the Traitor Soul version you at least get more customization of your character.

It is a fun game, though it has some broken mechanics. And there is a bundle, of sorts. You can get the latest version, traitor soul:

http://www.amazon.com/Encore-19690-Fate-Traitor-Soul/dp/B002L7GKXG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311720633&sr=8-1

And then "unlock" the first two games following this:

http://forum.wildgames.com/topic/16638-how-to-get-to-grove-from-fate-the-traitor-soul-459/page__pid__133342

They aren't unlocked by default, but they get installed in your pc, you just have to edit a file to unlock them. I wouldn't consider it illegal, since that thread has been on the official forum for ages and its still there.

EDIT: Apparently there's a new version released just last month. I don't believe it contains the previous 3 games, though.

Wait, so the disc version of Traitor Soul has the previous two games, but they need to be unlocked by manually editing a file? There isn't a license key included?

No, but its the same, really. License keys just register your game on their (rather horrid) online system, they don't do anything else. Worse is, the Traitor Soul box says it contains the previous two games, so somebody probably screwed up either with the box or the code. The developers have said that having the first two towns locked was intended, but then it wouldn't make any sense to have them there.
