I know it says it is, but what I want to know is if it REALLY is.

I had a look at it, and I say it's legal. They only give links for content that has been released to the public by the developers. Sometimes the full game, but also some source codes, etc. Many of the links are to official pages, also.

If you're looking for free games, there's a thread on this forum that might be more helpful.

I suppose a forum thread can't beat a website. Well, I gave that suggestion because the site in question focuses on previously licensed games, while there are many games out there that were free to begin with.

As far as it goes, though, it's all legal.

I realize that... & I'd like to redirect you to my thread

I feel so owned =P
The site seems to offer a full downloadable game only, if the game really is free. For an example Wolfenstein 3D only has the shareware version. so in that sense it doesn't smell fishy to me.
It is fully legal. If I recall correctly, they don't host the games themselves but rather link to the full game archive.

Okay, I checked and I'm correct.

For example, they have GTA in their list. When you check the related page , it includes a link to the Rockstar website dedicated to the download [url=]http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/gta.html

What do you mean by safe?
Yes, i would say it is both safe and legal.

It is a private initiative collecting so-called "liberated games", i.e. games where the developers have released it from copyright or have been published as freeware. (going so far as staying away of 'abandonware' as these can still have copyright issues and can be legally problematic, also do not fit into their category of 'liberated' games)

The download links are as far as I know tested and safe , but it is (as said above) links to different archives so a bit of your own discretion is advised, if the link looks dodgy then just not click it... However, I have tried a few before and have not had any problem so far.
I think so. I have never downloaded anything from there personally but I know people who have and they have never had a problem. At least yet lol
