tburger: But life and reality are not sth ‘general’ or 'on the whole'. There ARE composed, as you wrote, on a case by case base. And for such cases I mentioned penal system should have the ability to sentence sb for death. Any other punishment would just not be adequate and right.
Then you're right back to square one with the same system in place that US states that still practice capital punishment have. They wrongfully execute a lot of people. But you only get to find out about that after they're dead.

That's why it can't work on a case by case basis.

GoJays2025: You missed the next verse:
Matthew 5:39 "But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also."
avatar
XmXFLUXmX: Genesis 9:6 “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image."

Exodus 21:12 "He that strikes a man, so that he dies, shall be surely put to death."
Hmmm.... The last two bible quotes are from the Old Testament (pre Christ). The quote which is Christianity only is the Matthew one. Wondering if there are any coincidences here...
Google Scholar, rather than just Google. ... If you want to go even somewhat in depth, that is. Limit it to 2012 if you want to be bleeding edge in your argument.

Good luck :).

Well, unless your committing genocide against the Canaanites, of course!

XmXFLUXmX: See, the thing about Christians, is that we are not the doormats or the steps that the ignorant think we are. It's not always "turn the other cheek". Bad guys have to go, so that the innocent are unharmed.
Trust me, everyone knows tons of Christians are extremely violent. We just enjoy pointing out that your religion teaches you to do otherwise.

timppu: I would have thought the "debate classes" had become obsolete a long time ago already with internet and all. You can win any debate by just saying "Google it, duh!"
Oh debate has nothing to do with facts, just "winning", why do you think politicians do it?

Well, not everything in the depths of internet is necessarily based on facts either. The politicians could just hurl googlisms at each other:

"Maybe you should go google "why public health care sucks""

- "You can go google "Top 5 reasons why Obama is a threat to freedom" yourself!

Viewers can then google whatever keywords the politicians come up with, and make their educated decision.

CAPS LOCK; DUDE; YOU WIN BY CAPS LOCK!
I heard that theirs a law in congress right now that seeks to abolish the Capital Punishment,
Not sure if thats true or not, But i am sure my fellow goggers will be willing to enlighten us.
Focus on cost, lack of effective deterrance, and ratio of incarcerated "killers" later exonerated.
Any other arugments or quotes i can use,
I could use some quotes.
My homestate had two of the most notorious serial killers in 20th Century USA. Ted Bundy and Gary Ridgway. Ted Bundy was never convicted of the murders he committed in WA state, but was ultimately executed for the ones he committed in Florida.

Gary Ridgway, AKA The Green River Killer, was ultimately convicted of murdering 49 or so women and doing unspeakable things to their remains, but will spend the rest of his life in prison without possibility of parole. I remember seeing photos of the crime scene tape when I was in elementary school.

At present we just had Stenson let off of death row for a new trial and he allegedly only killed 2 people, roughly 1/25th of the people that Ridgeway murdered.

If you're going to take the side of abolishing the death penalty, that arbitrary nature of the penalty is something that should carry a great deal of wait.
Read up on the US Constitution, and its amendments.

Here's an article from today's Guardian (a UK newspaper, that is generally a reliable source).

I thought that was irawsome? At any rate, the doesn't seem to be trolling this thread. Which is impressive given the topic is one that tends to be highly volatile.
