Kyote33: SS2 turned ten on August 11!
Best. Game. EVAR.

Might not be my favourite game EVAR, but it certainly is one of the most iconic.
Curse you EA for locking it away from us all!
Happy Birthday Francisco!
Happy birthday Shodan!
Happy birthday Jesus!
...wait, what's today again?
Wow, what a great topic. That game brings back fond memories.
I'd love to install and play that on my laptop again. Isn't that the number one most requested game on GOG?
*hint hint*
P.S. Yes, yes, I know the licensing situation.

I would like to give it another go, it never grabbed me on the first play, I have some vague memory of the controls being clunky
[edit] i guess i should put in a spoiler warning, as the link talks extensively about shodan and that gives away a lot of the plot in SS2. Still a great article tho: [/edit]

PS/ Not really sure if there is a statute of limitations on spoilers... do i still have to keep quiet about Darth Vader being Luke's sister?

That was one hell of a read. Never played the game. If I could get my hands on a copy, I'd play it, but I would need one that would work with Vista/7. I already know much of the plot, as the game is old enough for its' secrets to be common knowledge discussed by many gamers, and somehow I think I'd be disappointed because it could never live up to the image I have in my head of it, but I still really want to play it. That photo of her on the cover of System Shock 2 has always freaked me out. There's just something so malevolent about her appearance that makes me want to hide from it.
If there's any property that would probably stand a chance being made into an amazing movie, this would be the one. It has all the trademarks of great science fiction/horror, and could be a great story to just watch. I would want it played by a bunch of unknowns, because that would take out the "Hey there's Brad Pitt" factor that can ruin movies. More than anything else, though, I just want to play the damn game.

Hmm I'm not sure I agree, I feel kind of special playing one of the best games that few actually had their hands on.
Game of my life.I don`t like this game,i WORSHIP this game. :)
Mm... Ripe old age of 10, and doesn't feel a day older than latest blockbuster. I wonder how long until SS2 brakes the 5-figure number on request page, perhaps we'll get something to commemorate that event. :P
Happy birthday Shodan! Hope to see you in catalogue soon :-)

She'll continue to crush your hopes, insect.
I wonder if EA will release it for free on its birthday. They released free versions of Red Alert and Command and Conquer. So it's not too far fetched.

As good as SS2 is, there's no denying that as a sci-fi horror it has aged badly. Those old models just ain't cranking up the fear factor any more. Still, I think there are some revamped models for it around on the net somewhere.
