hi!

I'm about to finish Gothic 3 soon, so the question is - should I buy Risen or Gothic 4 now?

I absolutely loved Gothic 2 (unfortunately have never finished 1) and I love Gothic 3 as well... I don't necessarily need to continue with the story (ie. Gothic4), I want the same or similar gaming experience...

so? :) thank you all!
Risen by far .... Gothic 4 is pure crap! And take it from a guy that finished the first 2 titles several times :D. You should get to finish the 1st one as well .. great game

No question about it whatsoever, Gothic 4 is a complete turd. And it doesn't continue the story so don't worry about it. Instead of the "Nameless Hero" you play some douchebag emo kid.

Risen, on the other hand, is a fantastic game. I love Gothic 3, but I'd say that Risen is the true spiritual successor to Gothic 2. Unfortunately it's quite short, but definitely an amazing game.
Risen. It's Gothic 1 remake :)

I'd say judge for yourself.

I haven't tried Gothic 4, but I've found Risen to be enjoyable.

true... but I find the controls of 1 even worse than the ones used in 2 (which I got to enjoy eventually :) most of all I couldn't live without strafing (is that a word?) - in 2 when you "locked on" an opponent, you could run around him, but in 1 the character jumps left and right and looses the "lock on" :((
I think you could strafe with Q/E, if A/D are "jumping" keys
Risen, Gothic 4 is a decent babies first RPG but that is literally the only good thing going for it.

The controls are a bit rough yes .. I`ll give you that ... but it is such an amazing game that .. I dunno .. I could easily go past that ... I remember the fist time I played Gothic 1 ... that feeling of moving up in the game society .. actually growing as a hero .... soo cool and revolutionary at that time .. DANG ... getting all melancholic now ... I might have to find time for a new play through soon :D
Arcania is terrible. Risen, as mentioned, is basically an updated version/amalgam of Gothic 1 and 2 in thematic elements, questing, talents, combat, etc. It pretty much as all the positives (and negatives) present in those games but it's still far superior to Arcania. Unfortunately it's closer to G1 in length and gives about 30ish hours of gameplay which is still longer than most games these days. The ending boss fight is also a huge letdown/terrible.
I'd also say better go indeed with risen.. I tried "gothic" 4: arcania demo and it was utter crap.
wow, this is kind of unanimous :)

thanks a lot everybody, seems like you've just saved me some serious money (and disappointment)!

When you play gothic 3.. Do you see far? I tried Gothic 3 and it seemed that like I was in blue bubble kind of. At least I noticed that in the beach and everywhere after when you did leave the town. So it was a quite turn off.

yeah, sure :) I also thought that using the current HW will grant me some spectacular view in the game, but it just hasn't been built that way I guess... I've set EVERYTHING on max, but still, looking down from the cliff shows the main shapes of mountains, water and stuff, but the textures/trees/grass starts just a couple of meter far from the main character. even with the latest community patch... but it's not that bad when you wander around in a forest! :) don't give up on the game just because of this graphical glitch. the gameplay is really worth it...
Risen has TAGES, avoid at all costs.
