lugum: its not really all comments about not winning, its about the way.

GameRager: But we all know that, deep down, it's really about not winning for the most part. People don't like the method because it didn't benefit them and allow THEM to win, so of course they get upset over it and complain.

And is this contest worth getting that upset about?
no its not worth getting upset about, and i certainly aint.

there is still a very nice sale for example coming up , they have enough promos, even (more fair) competitions. really its not all that bad.

but there is a difference between a 0,000001% chance as it is now, or a normal chance like in the previous contests. thats all. just to give gog something to think about.

Yep
I found it odd how quickly the codes went, thinking that we were a small community and that all the codes couldn't possibly be gone that fast, but I figure that's true for the forums only. Look at how many new people have posted on the thread to win free codes. Those are the people who helped reach 6 million downloads and they don't always visit the forums.
Yes, those codes are not for everyone, since you have to be faster than others to redeem them. But who cares? I didn't get one so far, but I appreciate the deal. It's a free giveaway, so there is nothing to complain about.

However, if they give away Indigo Prophecy and I don't get a code, I might chance my mind about this... I just love this game! ;)

lugum: ...
As every contest-starter it was GOG's own will to lead the contest this way (on the same rule you could complain about thewishingwell). You, and everyone else, have still the chance to win something so I'd not to worry so much.
I find this really annoying.
Umm, you guys really think that a lot of people made an account just to take part in contest?(which sounds rather improbable since that means they have read the site news despite not using it) :P You guys seem to forget that this site is for shopping good old games, not every single user is gonna be at forums regularly.
I have to admit, I do find this rather amusing. The sheer volume of people rushing to the forums (myself included) seems to have been too much for the poor servers to handle. Which, of course, prevented most from redeeming the codes in the first place.

Ah well, the Page Unavailable picture is cute, anyway.
These giveaways are fine, if and only if they increased the server base to support all the sheer volume of people rushing to get the codes.

Edited cos I'm an idiot...

I'm inclined to agree here. The GOG Twitter account has something like 19,148 followers. Assume a similar number for Facebook (if someone can provide more accurate stats that'll be great), Even giving a margin for error, spambots, disabled/abandoned accounts and those who have accounts on both services and I'd say the number of people you get will be larger than those who post on the forums on anything like even a semi-regular basis. We're just watching the silent majority come out of the woodwork.

why don't GOG give a code by email to the oldest users that always supported the cause, the major code redemers today, are new users that created the account only for the codes (aka bloodsuckers), this is unfair. This is bad planing my friends!

That's kind of a harsh view you have towards new members, but I can understand where you are coming from. Personally, I would say it would be a fairer system to provide such codes to users which are active or have provided a valuable service for the community.

On a side note, any idea if GOG will expand their server capacity as a result of this giveaway?
When they posted all the ROA codes on twitter I opened it within a minute, but all I got were the "world globe" page when the site was under too much load, so I wasn't able to get any.

The time that the pages loaded every code was gone :(.

At least gog is doin ga variety, both the "first come" type of giveaway and the post and randomly chosen, so there different ways to win, just have to be lucky.

GameRager: I know what you mean, but think about it this way.....how would you feel if you were a newcomer and Gog said EVERYONE would get a chance at some free games on their site and then gave all the codes to forum regulars and no newcomers? It works both ways, you know.

I agree with you both. GameRager made a lot of sense in his comments earlier in the thread.

People will complain about everything. Even someone giving away $1 billion to charity would get bothered by people saying they weren't giving it to the right charity.
