[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/arma_gold_edition]ArmA: Gold Edition, which includes the original ArmA: Armed Assault and its expansion Queen’s Gambit, assaults all the competition with a 60% discount for the next 24 hours.

This military simulator takes place on a fictional Atlantic island of Sahrani, divided into two countries: the communist dictatorship in the north and the democratic kingdom in the south. When US forces stationed there leave the southern country for training, the northern neighbour attacks. You are one of the US soldiers that hasn’t left the island yet, so you join the local militia and fight the aggressive regime!

The terrain featured in the campaign measures up to 400 square kilometers, and is beautifully rendered by the Real Virtuality 2 engine. All of the weapons and vehicle models are made in great detail, but apart from looking real they behave like the real ones too. Sighting, weapon ballistics, damage, recoil, and reloading are some of the things that were designed to be as real as they can get.

Grab ArmA: Gold Edition and test your military expertise for only $3.99 on GOG.com for the next 24 hours.
Somewhat tempting but I'll pass and see what tomorrow's release is.

Roman5: you know, speaking of Good "Unrealistic" shooters, I hope Hard Reset Makes it over here sometime soon...

As well as Shadow Warrior...Necrovision...and many others

F4LL0UT: Agreed. Despite the mediocre critical reception Hard Reset has been intriguing me ever since I heard of it. And especially after it occurred to me that it was created by some of the developers of the original Painkiller (which I'm a huge fan of). I'm still wondering though how it's possible that the NecroVision staff also claims to consist of former Painkiller developers. I'm waiting for another small Polish developer studio to show up and claim that they consist of former Painkiller guys. Reminds me of the time when Putin got more than 100% of the votes.
Speaking of Painkiller Developers...I would also love Bulletstorm here

Which should be easy, since EA is already on Board and we have new, higher pricepoints

Apart from the whole GFWL issue....

kalmis666: Nice timing with all the Day Z hype going on. Might pick this up.
avatar
Fred_DM: why? Day Z is for ArmA 2, which is the infinitely better game.

Of course. It is just conveniant to BIS to get more buzz with this sale.

well if GOG Managed to Liberate Alan Wake from Steamworks...I'm sure anything is possible
Wow, this has to be one of the fewest reviewed games on GOG. Only 5 people wrote anything?

Fred_DM: well, i bought ArmA 1 for full price on release when it came out.

i think ArmA 1, and it's horrible state at release, cost Bohemia a lot of respect. the buggy release of ArmA 2 didn't help, either, but at least the generally high quality of their ArmA 2 games made up for it.

why am i bothering with this at all? because ArmA 1 may put you off the series permanently. which would be a shame because ArmA 2 is a gem of a game. get that one instead.
I can understand that you hate ArmA 1 for being released in a terrible state for a high price, but it's since been updated quite a bit and some updates were made even after ArmA 2 was released. ArmA 1 Gold with all the updates and the expansion isn't as bad as you remember it from a few years back. Yes, ArmA 2 in its current state is better than ArmA 1 in every respect, but BI patched ArmA 1 to an enjoyable state and I don't think it will put off anyone from buying ArmA 2. It's really worth the 4$ for anyone who likes tactical shooters.
How I so wanted/want this game, especially at that price!

But I tried the demo on Steam, and no matter how many graphics tweaks I disabled, I could not get it to do anything but be way too laggy and slow. Sigh.
ArmA 1 is the Quake 2 of Arma.

So you recommend Arma: Cold War Assault instead? I've never been too sure about these games because of their highly realistic attempt at military simulation.

Great promo, bought. :)
Good promo, but it would be better if it was for Operation Flashpoint :D

I can't recommend you ArmA 1 since I never played it but I can recommend you ArmA: Cold War Assault. I played it when I was 14 or 15 and had a blast playing it. After some year later I bought it again on GOG and had a bigger blast playing it :D. It's hard, sometimes maybe even frustrating because as you probably know even one bullet can kill you but the satisfaction after completing a stealth/survivor/escape mission... oh god :D. And there is a mission editor and tons of addons too. I think 5.99$ is a laughable price for the amount of joy you will get :)

Is the campaign more enjoyable in co-op mode?
I want to buy Silver. Can you please elaborate if I also should buy ArmA Gold?

EDIT: Got both now, it is only 4 dollars anyway
