My games: Dream Pinball & Abe's Exoddus

My system: Windows 7 - 64bit (4M RAM)

A while back I downloaded Dream Pinball, installed and then launched game. All good so far, but when I tried to start game from Desktop shortcut, I got complete computer lockup, which I could only remedy by forced power down.
I had no satisfaction from the GOG Support Team, in the end they gave up, possibly believing it was me or my system to blame, despite the fact I had no problems with any other games.
Well, silly me, I thought I would give Abe's Exoddus a try and had exactly the same problem. Installed and launched, first time okay, but the dreaded lockup when game launched from Desktop shortcut.
You would think I would have learned my lesson, but no, I had to place my trust again in a supposedly quality, reliable service and got burned again.
Surely I'm not the only one that has experienced this problem?
Other games I have downloaded and had no problem with at all are:-
- Painkiller
- Dark Fall
- Fallout
- Witcher
- Enclave
- Broken Sword Trilogy
- Redneck Rampage

So, why these other 2 games refuse to work is beyond me.

Any suggestions?

I'm running Win7, 64bit as well, and have no issues with Abe's Exodus. If you're the only one having this issue with these games, I'd suggest you re-examine the possibility that the problem is at your end.

The few times I have had issues, GOG support have been beyond helpful. I haven't had a problem that they couldn't fix within an hour so far.
Thanks for your contribution, MonstaMunch, but I'm having the same problem with both games on my desktop (Windows 7 64bit) and my laptop (Windows Vista 32bit), so how would re-examining the possibility that the problem is at my end going to help?
The chances of both my OS failing to launch these games is pretty remote.
I'm very happy for you that GOG Support were beyond helpful, but for me they would only help so far and then throw in the towel if it became too difficult and fell outside their regular solutions.
So, let me ask again, any suggestions?
Obviously the Support Team do not monitor this forum as there has been no input from them.
Also, may I restate, that all the other games I have downloaded from GOG have given me no problems at all..............why is that???

Where are you installing the games (i.e. are you installing them in Programs, or somewhere else)? Are you installing as admin? Are you running as admin? Have you tried compatibility mode for the games?

Well, that depends on whether there's something about the way you've got these computers set up. There's also the possibility that they could both be infected if you've been transfering data between them. While I understand your logic in thinking it couldn't be your two computers, the same logic applies when considering that the multitude of other users who have these games don't seem to be reporting the same issue.

As for actual suggestions:

- Try installing it on a friend's computer, see if that works (obviously doesn't solve the problem, but may help you diagnose it).

- Open the processes tab in task manager, and try to see what's happening in the moments before it crashes. If possible, take screenshots of that and post them here, it will make it easier for people to help you.

- Check what these two games have in common (required drivers, etc).

- Let us know what solutions you tried with gog support so we know what to rule out.

I'm sure if you stick with it and give enough information for people here to help, they will do so. Good luck.
Does disabling your antivirus/security software resolve the problem? Some can interfere with certain games trying to access the display and keyboard in their attempts to protect you.

If this fixes the problem try adding the game's executables to the security software's whitelist (which might be called Ignore List or Trusted Files or Safe Files or something along those lines).

If a game runs on ANYONE'S Windows 7 then the OS is not the core issue, period.
If you're installing in the Program Files folder, try installing literally anywhere else. Most common fix for Windows Vista/7.

EDIT: Whoops, just noticed Coelocanth's post. I second everything in that post, and bow out in shame.
