I just recorded my whole steam and gog collection into www.backloggery.com and I got really scared. It's something over a hundred games and the stats say that more than 66% of them are still unfinished (65% after today, yay for Machinarium:)
Is this normal? :D I really need to stop buying games, even at sales, dammit.
Are you kidding me? If one finished game made the stat go down for one percent, then you've got nothing. I've got a whole lot of these in my drawers, some finished, some half finished and some untouched, and that's not even considering gog and steam.

normal?

no.

common?

oh yeah.

my backlog is so big right now that even if i don't buy anything and finish 15 games a year (which is above my current average) i will need 6 years of not buying any new games to clear my backlog.

christmas bonus plus steam/gog sales

not a good combination.
How many unfinished games are we talking about?

I have to finish Tomb Raider Legend, have the bulk of Angel of Darkness to complete and have to start playing Recettear. I stopped playing Manhattan Project because I thought it sucked.

Repeat after me: I won't buy games I don't really want, I won't buy games I don't really want, I won't buy games I don't really want, I won't buy games I don't really want, I won't buy games I don't really want, I won't buy games I don't really want.

doesn't work, I want them :) Most are classics I want to play at one point or another. I picked up basically everything for almost nothing during sales, so the average price goes down to something like 3 euros per game. Still, this was enough :)
I can't recommend backloggery enough, great great site
I'm in the process of buying a house, so before I move in and start making the mortgage payments (which will be a bit more than my current rent), I'm actively trying to build a backlog with the recent sales on here and Steam. Once I do start making mortgage payments, I'm not going to be buying any games for a very long time (at least till the next raise).

that's not the problem.
i want 95% of my games i bought. I really do. exception are like 5 games from paradox pack but otherwise...

pathalogic
Might and magic 1-6
GTAIV
Assasin creed
Sins of solar empire
GK 2
Civ IV colonization
Full throttle
vampire redemtpion
Under a killing moon
giants
and many many more

I really really want them. that's why i bought them. the games i sortof want are still waiting to be purchased next time.

so your solution is not a good one :D

edit: i don't have a problem with unfinished games. I am not completionist. I didn't finish DA:O but i did put 55 hours in it. worth 35 bucks for ultimate version. worth the purchase.

i didn't even touch most of my games. kingpin had been sitting on my gog account since very beginning. i even downloaded it once.... :D
never installed.

I have about 170 games unfinished, but I'm like lukasz. I don't really care about finishing all of them. A large portion of them are strategy games where the story isn't important anyway
Of all the GoG games I've bought and its around 19 I've beaten 5, Now since I've gotten most of those on sale I'm not too worried about my completion rate because I tried some I thought I'd like HOMM 4 and some I didn't think I'd like UFO: AM and it was well worth the money.
I have such a backlog, I'm thinking of getting an account there, although in the back of my head, I know the games I still need to play.

It's just everytime I find a sale, I feel like it will never be that cheap or cheaper again, so even though I won't play it right now, I buy it for the future. 0.0
Wasting time on a site like this is wasting time I could be playing a game. Still, your backlog isn't that bad. I have a couple boxes of games unplayed (plus 3x 36 gallon tubs, and a several hundred digital titles). I've played a bunch of games of course, but it's hitting on games like Alice 2, RDR, or New Vegas that really slows me down.
I used to finish all my games when I was younger (and had more time due to being at uni or having an easy job). Recently I've left a few unfinished that I'll 'get back to at some point' like Tomb Raider Legend (and Anniversary - I finished the original, and 2, not 3)
I like to finish games if they're fun to play and have a story attached.
If it's a racer then I'll just play it til I'm fed up without worrying about getting all the golds/cars/whatever.

Currently baby and job take up too much time so I'm trying to limit how many games I play along with all my other hobbies. On the plus side this means the games I do have can last me a long time and I don't mind waiting til Christmas to pick up a couple more ;)

This is pretty much me - I tend to buy many games when they are on sale and hence can pick them up really cheap. I own about 500 games and most are picked up cheap. All the games I get are games that I want for one reason or another - but not all the games end up being good. I don't care much for completing a game though if it's good then I do tend to try. I like to try out many different genres and gameplay types and so will buy a game that does something new just to test it out.
For me games are supposed to be fun - so I will stop playing a game when it stops being fun.

Pretty much exactly my situation. Even the game count should be about the same. :)
I've got a pretty ridiculous list of unplayed games too.

I never buy full price games these days. But even just buying games during Steam and GoG sales I'm buying quiker than I can play them!

I try and cut down my game buying, but as somone above said all the games are ones I do want to play, but fear they might not go on sale again if I don't pick them up.

Digital distribution sales are both the worst and best thing ever. On one hand it leads to impulse buying of games I don't play. On the other hand, games have never been so cheap!
