I've played a good number of adventure games now but not a FMV one. Tell me your favorite and why. Whoever is the most convincing, I will buy their choice for myself and any $6 GOG for the winner. If it's too hard for me to decide I will let random.org choose for me. Good luck!

I will choose the winner sometime late tonight, or early tomorrow morning.
I believe Gabriel Knight 2 - The Beast Within is my favorite.

I spent quite a lot of time playing the first, borrowed from a friend whe I was a teenager, back in the nineties, but very little with GK2.

Then, when I had the opportunity to get it here, I went on to appreciate it as my favorite in the series. Somehow, I like the acting better in this version than Tim Curry and company in the first one. Even though they're great too.

Also, GK2 is regarded as one of the few FMV games that are really great in the adventure genre, so there's no point in skipping it. :)
The Beast Within. Brilliantly acted and shot, superbly scored, a (mostly) logical collection of puzzles, fantastic plot and amazing atmosphere. It set the bar for what FMV adventures should be, one that was only really equalled by Spycraft (which should hopefully end up on here one day).
If you had asked me a couple of days ago, I would also have suggested Gabriel Knight 2 without a second thought. But with the recent release of Zork Grand Inquisitor I'm not quite sure anymore. They're both excellent games and worth a look.

(edit) Yeah, forgot about Tex Murphy. Those are a lot of fun as well.

There is absolutely no question to this whatsoever, since the best FMV game and possibly the best game ever made is Tex Murphy - Pandora Directive. I've been venting about this game for long enough already so I'll simply link you to my earlier rants about this in a minute.

Voila:

PS: anyone who picks anything besides Pandora Directive is wrong and a grotesquely ugly freak.

Like others said, GK2 is the best. I haven't played any other though but there is no way they are better. It's just impossible. Probabilities you know... ;)

What “Pandora Directive” over “Under a Killing Moon” no way. Pandora Directive was just an expansion to Under a Killing Moon.

Under a Killing Moon is the best FMV ever
BUMP

I'll be back in 6 hours or so and will announce the winner. :)

edit: I can't type >_<

Under a Killing Moon!

(I need not explain why. Riding the coattails of Frater's post.)

GK2 - the beast within is my pick. Probably because it put to flesh one of the best adventure games out there - GK1. Unfortunately no Tim Curry, but what can you do. It's great nevertheless.
Going to have to go with Tex Murphy: Under a Killing moon.

Now, if it was a non-GoG game I would probably say Blade Runner [hard to find nowadays though].

My selection to suggest from is limited though, haven't played the other FMV games that GoG has [I don't think]
Under a Killing Moon.

First off it's nostalgia, I grew up playing PC adventure games and UaKM was my favorite outside of the Lucasarts classics. The reasons that were true are still there today though. The game is filled with amazing dialogue and performances, not just from a PC game but also just in general. The Tex Murphy character is done brilliantly by Chris Jones and that Bogart-eque wit matched with Tarantino style drunkenness and ambivalence is a compelling mixture.

On top of presentation you also have interactivity. FPS style exploration before it was anywhere near popular for adventure games mixed with real searching for clues. Not shining hotspots or casual gaming bullshit, but real snooping and looking for clues through large open environments. Searching a seedy motel for clues and finding a wine bottle in the hottub is thrilling.

Lastly the music. The smooth jazz sound of UaKM stays with me even today. When that sax starts playing on the title cards I get chills down my spine.
I'm gonna go with Under a Killing Moon, because that was my first FMV adventure way back when. The cheesy acting goes well with the cheesy scifi plot, and actually makes it funnier! The puzzle sequences are also actual puzzles, like jigsaws or cyphers, though there's the usual 'hunt for clues' and put them together part of the game, which can be pretty fun too. I'd love to play it again...
The X-files game was fun :)

Come to think of it, that game is the only FMV game I've ever played...But it was fun :D

Edit. Oh, on GOG...sorry, apparently I can't read..

You can ignore this then :)

I ended up letting random.org pick for me and Gremmi was chosen. Congrats!

It was pretty split with GK2 and Tex Murphy, does no one like Phantasmagoria?
