All I can say is I've bought over 200 games on GOG using either PayPal or a credit card and never had a problem with one purchase.

I'd trust GOG when it comes to buying online far quicker than I would trust many other online companies including Target, Amazon, Apple, Nintendo etc. who have all had customers' credit card information or personal information stolen.

Faenrir: It might come from someone hijacking your wifi so you might want to secure that as well (no WEP, use WPA2 and MAC filtering).

_Bruce_: MAC filtering is just annoying but *not* a security feature. Also, even if your local network is compromised, it should not result in installation of malware (and in turn theft) unless the PC was vulnerable anyway.
I fail to see how it's not a security feature. It's not annoying, you just type the adress in and voila.
It's another failsafe. Of course a competent hacker will be able to get through anyway, the question is: will he want to, when he has to spend extra time because of multiple security layers ?
I've done a bit of hacking when i was in school (IT school obviously) and while it's pretty simple to hijack a wifi it's mostly because they usually are used by people that don't really care about their network security and just use WEP keys.

For the last part, i fail to understand your reasoning. If a hacker has access to your network, he can get any information you're sending / receiving and intercept them to get your passwords, codes, anything really. Google "man in the middle".
My credit card credentials were stolen after I ate Big Mac at Mc Donalds. I'm sure it's related.

Jared1138: I finally decided to create a GOG account yesterday to partake in the current "time machine sell." After creating it I attempted to purchase Simcity 2000 with a credit card, only to be told that my payment attempt "had been declined." I then tried to use two prepaid debit cards I had lying around but was still given the same message. After contacting support I received an email which basically said to try using paypal instead.

Fast forward to today, I learn that my credit card information has been stolen. GOG was the only thing I've attempted to use the card on recently so I have no doubt that it's related. I don't see myself using GOG ever again after this, but I want to pass this along to anyone else who's about to purchase a game with a credit card and potentially save someone from having to go through the same frustration.
Tough luck, but personally i have tens of games, maybe even close to 100 here and np. Paypal.

Saying "GOG was the only thing I've attempted to use the card on recently so I have no doubt that it's related." ...well think hard where youve used it before. If someone gets your card info, it could be used at far later point - not immediately.
