New Games, New OSes, Cyberpunk® Announcements, and Something Special for Witcher 2 Modders--and more!--will all be announced at this live webcast Special Event.

The developers of The Witcher franchise CD Projekt RED studio and GOG.com the DRM-free, digital distribution platform will host a Special Event on the 18th of October at 18:00 (GMT). The whole event will be streamed online on facebook.com/thewitcher or www.gog.com.

During the conference the developer studio will announce the official name of their futuristic new IP, based on the classic pen & paper RPG Cyberpunk®. More exclusive details about the project will be shown.

Not only console and PC users should tune in for the conference. Mac Computer users should be prepared for a bunch of thrilling announcements including more information about the upcoming release of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings for OS X.

That’s not all of the news that GOG.com has planned for the Special Event, however: they will also be showcasing several new releases as well as giving gamers a unique chance to get some of the greatest classic games ever made for a literally unbeatable price.

Remember – the live stream from the CD Projekt RED and GOG.com Special Event starts October 18th, 18:00 (GMT). See you then!

DCT: You do know Ultima Online is still going right? Bioware-Mythic is still running it and I recall Everquest 1 is still going as well.

Can't wait.
Just the announcement happens to happen... the day before the final.
I can't be faulted for having background video?
Well I ain't trying to be picky here, but here's a tiny glimpse of how I see some things related to game distribution, all according to some of my personal favorite services:

- Steam is has a lot of support from game devs and publishers, a huge library, steam cloud, nice client, valve games, mac support, humble bundle redeem, etc
- Onlive is so cool, cloud gaming, indie friendly, cross platform (mac, pc and mobile also), microconsole, but is US/UK/CAN/Belgium only (for now)
- DotEmu is drm-free like GOG, but they have pc packed arcade games and a nice library of ios and android games. They also develop several ports of games like X-Men arcade for the ios, they some cool rare Silmarils collection (and Amiga's Nicky Boom) and they even ported this new Final Fantasy VII for pc, wow;
- Greenmangaming always has low prices on new and old titles and they have this awesome trade feature, a cool blog and a simple and functional client for some non-steam redeemable games;
- GamersGate is multiplatform also (mac and pc) and they have a ton of cool games, daily additions ranging from low-budget indie titles to AAA games, bluecoins, indiefort bundles and so on...

And that's where GOG comes in! We have here one of the coolest selection of games (a lot of exclusives, excellent old games), everything is drm-free, always nice prices, cdprojektred games, cool promos, extra customer love, the best forum... but heck, I *think* I know that demand a lot of work from you guys, but adding multiple OSes (linux, for example, would be a step ahead of all the others) can be something even better, a differential, something extra to your already cool philosophy, some extra stuff from all that these services share in common.

edit: oh and there's Desura which is damn cool too, linux, mac and pc, indie games, games displayed in the country's own currency, etc.

Does this mean you'll pay us to take the games from you?

LordCinnamon: But PR fails are part of their PR strategy! (<3 you GOG)

Sounds like Mac OS is getting support then, but the second paragraph speaks of yet another new operating system. Linux is moving up in the gaming world judging from all the Humble Bundles, Kickstarters, general indie attention, along with Valve and Steam support, while Windows 8 is getting a lot of flak but is still Windows. Hmmm...
Always get excited by these CD Projekt annoucements, even thought the last couple have been a bit of an anti-climax. It was like:

The Witcher 1 is coming to Mac!
... okay, well I don't have a Mac. And I have The Witcher on PC.

Fallout is free!
... okay, well I already bought that from you.

Free GOG backup version of The Witcher 2!
... okay, well I already bought The Witcher 2 from GOG, so I have that.

TheEnigmaticT: Not...quite.
This response is enough to make me believe Windows 8 is the "new" OS, which is truly sad. I mean, how hard would it be to just zip the game files of DOS games (you don't have to port all of your games) and let us run them in DOSBox on any OS/platform we like? Currently, we need to have a Windows PC on which we install the games, then copy to files over to something else.

Seriously, this way you could almost claim that you support all platforms DOSBox has been ported to (Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, RISC OS, BeOS, FreeBSD, Palm OS, PlayStation Portable, Android, iOS, Symbian, Maemo, BlackBerry PlayBook, Wii, GP2X and others - courtesy of Wikipedia) and it would open a whole lot of new markets (especially mobile platforms - aDOSBox runs decently on my phone).

This happens occasionally. I got paid $2+ for taking Master of Orion 3.
My predictions:
New Games
I'm going to go full-bore here and predict that, since the redneck picture clue that we now know was from the filming of the Carmageddon ad was such a total and complete troll, that Double Fine is NOT the major get for GOG this time around, but LucasArts is. I will be right one of these times.
New OSes
I will totally note the use of the PLURAL of OS, and not the singular of OS. I am going to take this to mean that not only is GOG coming to Mac OS X at long last, but it is also coming to Linux as well as Android. Going to have to get an Android tab one of these days so I can have my GOG catalog everywhere I go. Which Android tablet will GOG throw their weight behind (if they throw their weight behind a currently available Android tablet)? And can we buy it directly from GOG.com for a fairly nice price even if GOG makes their own Android tablet that looks like a million bucks but only costs $50 for one of the best Android gaming tablets period?
Cyberpunk® Announcements
I'm purely guessing here that the final name of the new Cyberpunk-based title will be made known, along with an EPIC new trailer and a release date.
Something Special for Witcher 2 Modders
This one is totally stumping me, but I'm guessing that the Witcher 2 Mod Tools will be made publicly available and maybe a competition for a GOG.com coupon for the very best Witcher 2 mods? I might have a few friends who would get behind this.
--and more!--
Here's the thing: I didn't quite get the "and more". Here's my guess (and I'm purely guessing here): Maybe GOG is teaming up with Cloanto to bring Amiga Forever and C64 Forever to GOG? A great many people are screaming about how the Team17 titles don't look right because the Amiga versions blow the DOS versions out of the water, so who knows.

Also, I like the idea of some more... interesting games, like the Star Trek games, the Disney Interactive games (I'd be real interested to see if Disney decided to emulate its infamous Disney Sound Source PC hardware for the game Hare Raising Havoc on GOG), and even a few more awesome games!

*Hopes it's Linux*

I mean just look at GOG's own Site Feature request thingy majig.

Add Linux versions of games got 5951 votes when I post this.
and
Add Mac OS X versions of games have 1188 votes....

grinninglich: Port *ALL* Gog games to Linux! :P
Insanity... :)
I will uninstall Windows 7 if that will happen .
I'm secretly hoping for a "SEGA joining GOG" announcement...
"and more"

GOG gets into the emulator business and starts bringing PSONE games to the PC in glorious perfection that we have come to expect from GOG.
