Gudadantza: The preference of WASD over cursor key will depend in how your computer or keyboard is placed. And/or the space you have.

With my old PC keyboard and chair were placed in a specific way and for me it was easier and more natural use cursor keys when playing a game. In my current laptop the computer and the table is placed in a way that WASD now is easier and more comfortable when playing a FPS plus a mouse.
That and I'd say which hand is your dominant hand .. Aswell as how games was growing up

For me my dominant hand is my left and for me loads of pc games used the arrow keys and what few didn't was rebind able to the arrow keys .. I have this preference on keyboard input mainly for years of muscle mermory of how several games I had defaulted to the arrow keys for movement .aswell as it makes using ''action keys'' as I wil refer to none movement keys far easier for me .. because of the majority of the keys on my native keyboard layout from stores are on the left and arrow keys on the right ..

Cambrey: Interesting comments, but to be honest, I'm not reading anything really atypical in this thread. Now, if someone would use their toes to play a real time strategy game, or play a FPS with a steering wheel, that would be atypical.
Of course, by definition, a true outlier is rare. We're doing our best here, but we can only work with what we got :P.

dtgreene: Reminds me of another preference I have: I prefer keyboard-only to keyboard+mouse. I don't like having to juggle multiple input devices.
That really is atypical. Although with keyboard and mouse, you're not supposed to "juggle" input devices. You're meant to hold the mouse in your dominant hand and not let go, leaving your (likely) left hand to cover keyboard inputs.

That's why WASD has prevailed over the arrow keys - they're on the left side of the keyboard and arrows are on the right hand side of the keyboard, so if you're reaching over with your left arm and holding the mouse in your right hand, you'll damage your back. Of course, if you're playing with a laptop track pad rather than a real mouse, there's no hope for your back anyway.
Walking in games as opposed to running - unless running gives me a clear advantage in the game somehow. But I love to just walk around an open world game and taking in the sights rather than running through the game as fast as I can.
