Lucumo: To be fair, padding stats was relatively easy if you played good tanks (and certain types). My favorite one was the Aufklärungspanzer Panther (generally regarded as really bad) in which I played like double the number of my second most played tank. Then there were other influences like the crew and gold ammo.
Quit playing in early 2014 due to Wargaming.net screwing me out of the 1-year premium account right after I made the jump and bought one. Fk them.
idbeholdME: I was definitely padding stats in ARL 44. I played it a lot with full gold ammo. Not because of the increased penetration but because for some reason, the gold shell on that tank deals more damage (330) than the regular one (300).
My most played tank was M46 Patton. As view range is one of the few parameters not influenced by RNG, a skillful utilization of it can win battles. M46 has 410m base on tier 9. With the crew and equipment, I had nearly 500m. You are basically farming spotting damage just by existing.
My other favorite tank was IS-4. Because another thing not influenced by RNG is armor and how you use it. With proper angling, it could be a beast.
Yeah, gold ammo was generally regarded as pay2win. They eventually allowed it to be bought with standard currency, right? At least I remember stocking up on like ~5 shells for special situations and I certainly didn't pay cash for it.
Meh, all those lame Russian tanks (IS-3, IS-7, KV-1 etc) or the Bat-Chats which would maul my poor tier 7 (which was the highest one in the German line) scouting tank. I basically played German tanks exclusively. 7253/7266 battles were with them. Favorites were scouts and TDs, followed by medium tanks, followed by heavy tanks and those P&C SPGs.
The game used to be a lot of fun though, until I got screwed over. If there was a company releasing a new game like that today, I would jump into it (although my PC is seven years old at this point).
Also dabbled a bit in the World of Warplanes beta when that was around. It wasn't as interesting though.
