samuraigaiden: Can someone fill me in on the recent wave of disgruntled customer posts? I've been using GOG the same way for a long time - just buy the game and download the offline installers - and I'm feeling out the loop when it comes to DRM controversies.
avatar
Ancient-Red-Dragon: 1) GOG sells DRMed games from the EGS store now via Galaxy 2.0 (and more DRMed games from other stores are probably coming to GOG next year too).

2) GOG allows No Man's Sky to put some of its content behind a DRM gate of connecting online through Galaxy.

3) CDPR made the terrible decision to double-down on the principle of infesting GOG games with DRM by DRM-gating some of Cyberpunk's content behind Galaxy as well.

In the latter two cases, you aren't getting all of the content in your offline installers. The DRM-gated content is excluded out of them and absent from the game(s) that you downloaded.
I wonder why noone ever seems to mention that you can't even choose the installation folder of GOG Galaxy. That's a pretty total no-no for me...

How did you do it, if you don't mind me asking? When I run the installer, it just immediately craps in C:\Program Files without asking me anything. (and it also configures itself to run at startup.. basically as rude as a virus :x)

I don't know, I've been using it for ages now.

As for running at startup - at least you turn that off, unlike other crap (for instance the whine-ware that installs along Magix products - so annoying, thank gods for Autoruns).
I feel like GoG is quite a good platform so far, it could become main stream later (I hope so)

Must be one of those "new" features from GOG Galaxy 2. Hurray for the "improved" client. Well I guess I'll stick to downloading the installers manually...

kaboro: The clownery around GoG is ludicrous as all clownery is supposed to be.
This clown platform called GoG, the clown platform that claims will give you a free game if you register your credit card and purchase for a certain amount with said card....big fat lie.
The clown platform that doesnt allow you to download large files because it gives you a failed message every two gigabytes.
The clown platform that takes months before addressing your customer service requests.
Will GoG ever be more than a Ronald MacDonald of the game platforms?
You mean unlike Steam which sells any crap on the market and forces gamers to use their platform to play many games?

A wise child once said to Bozo the Clown: Cram it clownie.

1) The free games are here: https://www.gog.com/partner/stay_at_home. The site also has free giveaways from time to time. You need to visit frequently to catch them.

2) It's not the site's fault your internet sucks.

3) Contact support if you feel your ticket is taking too long.

Take it easy on the clowns while you're at it. They're just trying to make a living. Not even Batman hates clowns this much.

Only clowns hate other clowns this much. Let's be positive and just call him 'competitive'.

I kinda feel Gabe Newell would have been a good cast for the McD frontman... dunno why...

I haven't played the game myself... is he fat, grey and Scrooge McDuck-like?

I think that's George RR Martin you're talking about. Although he's a zombie and doesn't care about money that much any more.

Makasouls: Its better than steam, just for the fact that I control if my game updates or not. I am so sick of playing no man sky and they update on steam, and it turns space into some ravers drugged out fantasy of what space looks like. With gog i just dont let it update and end of story lol.
Yes, this is the one and only reason i buy games on GoG when they release here early.
The irony is that when years ago i wrote a post on these forums suggesting the updates to not be mandatory and have an option to roll back, the community jumped on me with critiques and insults, its actually then that i got most my negative rep, not because of my later angry posts, go figure.

How come my internet only sucks on GoG and not anywhere else?

Yeah thank you for the advice Einstein, but support said they will look into it and havent heard from them in weeks.
So contact support to complain about lacking support...thats an interesting logic.
