xa_chan: My thoughts exactly. Plus, frankly, most of the LEGO video games are excellent, based or not on movies. So if they are "cash grabs", I love cash grabs.

Leroux: What I find weird about them is that they don't even look like LEGO much. They're using the brand name, figures and a building brick collecting mechanic, but when it comes to the overall scenery these figures act in, Minecraft looks more like LEGO than the LEGO games. The backgrounds just seem like your run-of-the-mill 3D videogame graphics, and inconsistent with the LEGO style. I guess that makes them look rather cheap.
The LEGO Movie is definitely an exception to that. Essentially EVERYTHING in that game is built out of LEGO (just like the movie). And its a fun game too, especially with all the extra things you can go and find and all the different characters you get to use.

Funny, on the contrary it's exactly what makes them particularly fun to me. Maybe because when I was a kid, I played everywhere with my LEGOs, so i'm accustomed seeing them in weird places! ^_^

I don't see them as weird though but as dull. I guess it would be different if it would look like the LEGO figures were roaming around in a realistic garden or a child's bedroom or something, but to me the backdrops just look like your average, run-of-the mill action video game with unimpressive 3D graphics. To be fair though, that's only judging from the screenshots and gameplay footage, I haven't actually played any of the LEGO games myself (except for one that I played an hour at max on the PS2 before I ran into a game-breaking bug).

This one looks much better better in the screenshots, maybe I'll give it a try one day, when it gets a good discount. Thanks for pointing it out!
