It's Throwback Thursday time! For this week's peek at the greatest titles in video game history, we're inviting you to explore a different realm, crafted for fans of short adventure platformers.

Another World is a masterclass in design and narration that continues to inspire game designers to this day. Starting with an iconic opening scene, it throws you into a dangerous quest to save yourself in a merciless alien world. The gameplay mixes exploration, combat, and puzzle-solving, and is full of great mechanics that will challenge you while keeping the difficulty low enough to be accessible to all.

So read what one of our GOG teammates has to say about Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition and why it's a game worth playing 30 years after its release.

What I mostly like are certain artful creations that captivate you against your will, make you forget everything that is around, and transport you to... Well... Another World. Not many games are so aptly named. From its introduction to its conclusion, Eric Chahi's masterpiece uses its technical limitations as a strength.

The mellow yet contrasting colors and a limited amount of details brings credible depth and arouse curiosity about this unknown planet. The coarse sound effects and sparse dialogue reinforce the alienness of the whole experience, while the absolute lack of information given completes the feeling of being lost, a stranger in a strange land.

Yet, its straightforward scenario hurls you in a desperate fight for your life, never releasing the tension until the end. And honestly, through its excellent and diverse mechanics, once I managed to figure out the solution to a puzzle, the level design often just made me go "wow, that's so smart". Try an important piece of video game history: kick back, relax, and travel to Another World.

Throwing it forward, in to the forum...

This game is indeed timeless classic. A masterpiece! And worth to be mentioned in Throwback Thursday.
The game originally was one of those games I call "artisany" or "handmade". Other example could be the original Prince of Persia.
It is indeed a "platforming" (of some kind) classic with notable animations, technology behind, developed and studied gameplay in its own right. But It wasn't my cup of tea in the past. It always broke my nerves and It always was a pleasure I couldn't deal with, because of the trying and error concept.

The 20th anniversary polished it and probably made things better in the game itself and for preserving and modernization for new computers.
Ah, one of the games from my childhood. A masterpiece indeed. I hope some day we also get Prince of Persia here.
