tfishell: However unlikely, if you want it on GOG let 'em know. ;-)

EDIT: Maybe support@ysnet-inc.jp?

SCPM: I sent them a message via KS about a DRM-free version so we'll see.
Did the same, for me it looks like many devs are still unaware of DRMed vs DRMfree at allor believe that it would cause problems to go DRM-free! It´s nice that both Bloodstained and Yooka-Laylee could be secured and I really hope that we´ll be able to secure Shenmue 3 as well!
I want Shenmue 3 DRM-free :)

I approve of this message! In fact, I'm going to attempt to do my part in trying to get the word out. If anyone else would like to join me, start using the hashtag #Shenmue3DRMFree on your social media sites. Let's #SaveShenmue from DRM!

SCPM: I got a message back that the vendor for the PC version has not been decided, but there are no plans for a DRM free version. =\
Can you share a link or a screenshot? I think it will help to get people motivated.
Make sure you're actually contacting the devs and not just voting.

Don't see why you edited out the comments, you made some good points.

I've only backed a total of three crowdfunding projects because of the skepticism. Really my only motivation to pay is the special goodies that come with some of them.

I just really hope GOG works the same magic they did with Yooka-Laylie. Kind of frustrating about that one though, I really wanted to back it, but didn't because of their original pro-DRM thing.
Never got a response via email so I sent a message via Kickstarter like SCPM did: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ysnet/shenmue-3/messages/new?message%5Bto%5D=ysnet
dreams come true sometimes

this makes also hope for other forgotten sequels, maybe we'll see suikoden 6 on kickstarter in a few months
"Q: Are there plans for the HD versions of Shenmue 1 & 2?"
"A: The property rights for Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2 belong to SEGA, so we are not in a position to comment on that."

Facepalm ;(((

I've attached the image from the message I got. Hopefully, enough people will message them and convince them (or get them to convince Sony). After all, Microsoft eventually allowed Shadowrun Returns to go DRM-free, Deep Silver is bringing Bloodstained DRM-free to GOG (and they had provided 90% of the funding), and Yooka-Laylee's investors allowed a GOG version too. Sony is likely providing a huge chunk of funding, since the original Shenmue cost $47 million to make and this one is definitely not being made just for $2 million+, but the more ways they are able to sell the game, the more they'll get back.

jefequeso: Isn't the point of Kickstarter to cut big publishers out of the picture?
It's to enable projects that wouldn't be possible otherwise, at least in that form and as quickly. Often that means getting enough money to create material that is good enough to convince investors who are able to provide several times the amount that crowdfunding can (usually) generate.

What a shame. I hope once Shenmue 3 takes off they will be able to work things out with SEGA concerning the original two games.

Well, just got a reply from them:
Thank you for your message!
The vendor for the PC version has not been decided yet, and there are no plans to produce a DRM-free version.

Oh well, they certainly don't need my help.
I hope that GOG strikes an agreement with the Shenmue team, much like they have with Bloodstained.
I really want to try out the first 2 Shenmue games.
