However unlikely, if you want it on GOG let 'em know. ;-)

Maybe support@ysnet-inc.jp?

Or you can contact on Kickstarter, but you need to sign up or use Facebook:

I sent them a message via KS about a DRM-free version so we'll see.

Nice, I just sent an email via the above address. Don't expect a response, especially if there is a language barrier to an extent, but worth a shot and only took a few minutes.

Also, you should edit in the wishlist entry you made :) - http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/shenmue_3

So now gamers have to do the job of publishers and yet some publisher will distribute the game.

Heh...
How about Sony spread out their butt and poop out some money?

I think they are willing. The thing is, I think Sony (or whoever's backing this as well) needs to see fan support. That is why it is stated if it fails, no more Shenmue.

Hmm... actually, now that you mention it, that is kind of weird.

"Hey, everyone, give us--the giant multi billion dollar technology behemoth--money, so we can publish a game."

Isn't the point of Kickstarter to cut big publishers out of the picture?

EDIT: Or am I confusing publishers and investors again?

For which you do not use Kickstarter. You have data analysts, marketing people, PR people, business intelligence people, and you ignore all these to go on a third party service and ask for money to fund a game while you have all the money in the world to fund that game yourself? Flip off!

(you != you, but you get what I mean :p)

The thing that comes to mind (besides they not wanting to fund the game) is that you can get more money from fans using Kickstarter, if you only sold the game then you would have the fans paying the retail price of the game vs Kickstarter where people will pay 30/60/100/10000...

What pisses me off is when the games are kickstarted and the developers still make a deal with publishers that end up fucking something in the game... But hey, i never backed a game on kickstarter so whatever...
My take on it is that the use of Kickstarter is more about generating hype, than anything else. People who have a financial tie to something tend to be more vocal, especially if they were fans of the subject matter in the first place.
Nice, was going to post about this, but got a pleasant ninja.

This should obviously get funded, so it's a question of DRM-free or waiting an obnoxious amount of time for a discount.
From the look of it, it doesn't seem like it'll have any problem getting funded! It's halfway there already!
Is this being produced by Sega? Because if so it will indeed be a Steam exclusive.
