Yep. You can even sequence break it with careful paying attention to get some things without the candle.

Like Magic of Scheherezade and The Guardian Legend?
(It looks like you enjoy the component genres of these two games, so it sounds like you would like these NES games if you tried them.)
I could also mention Actraiser (SNES). Would you like that game? (Note that the sequel, sadly, got rid of the simulation portions, making the game just a run-of-the-mill 2D platformer, a genre that was too common at that point in time (before it became endangered in the following generation.)

* Use either the Healer Glitch or HUD Fairy to trigger a scroll lock glitch that allows you to wrong warp around the game. (Cartridge version only)
* Press Up+A on controller 2 to quit the game after placing a gem; you can then place it again to skip having to place it in later dungeons. (I've confirmed this works on the FDS version.)

I would rather play a mediocre/bad game of a genre I love (though not sure if I'd be good with the likes of Hoshi wo Miru Hito) than a good game of a genre I hate.
(For example, I would choose Hoshi wo Miru Hito over the likes of Final Fantasy 14 or Destiny 2.)
What is most important to me is not what genre it is from, but wheter you like the game (i.e. a good game). I have found that if i lock myself into genre conventions (and this goes to all media) then I lose out of a lot of fun

Z2 glitches
Actraiser is one of my top games of all time that I semi-regularly reply. Both halves are great, and yet it's better than the sum of them. I'm excited they're doing an anniversary edition soundtrack with extra tracks, too. My husband got me SolSeraph on PS4 [DRMed digital distribution, but was also only $5, but still...] It was "OK". It was a game where it was less than the sum of its parts. I think it could have been good if they had put more time and spirit into it. There isn't enough hopping between the modes, and both modes suffer from "lack of charm".
I tend not to play games using many glitches unless I discover themself during play. I do remember doing something with fairy to cheese it, but I haven't played it in quite some time.

My most beloved Genre. (And favourite Games)
- Turn Based Strategy.
- Heroes of Might and Magic 2, Master of Magic, Fallen Enchantress, Age of Wonders 1, Age of Wonders Shadow Magic.
Alpha Centauri, Civilization 1 and 2.
- Western RPG Games.
- Diablo 1 + Hellfire. Fallout 1+2+Tactics. Baldurs Gate 1+2. Icewind Dale. Neverwinter Nights 2. And many more.
Off: Some "Point and Click Adventures". :-)
And Games like Torchlight 1+2.
Avoid: Rogue Likes. Unfair Game Design. (Games that are just *hard*, because one enemy hit reduced the health bar to 1/3.)
Like Dark Souls and similar.
- Modern cinematical experience.....virtual movie games. With a cut scene every 3 minutes.
- Bad Games.
- Games who are so easy, that they are boring. Because they have become so damn casual.
- Games with pushed and forced political agenda.
- Games with a pushed and forced ideology.

Interestingly enough, for the following Zelda game, A Link to the Past, I find I enjoy the game more with glitches than without. The game is so much more fun when i can play it out of order, and when the challenge turns into working out a way to glitch my way to certain items. (One thing that's apparently possible, but which I haven't been able to figure out, is getting the mirror while it's still raining and being able to save it (the game would softlock in a way that would prevent me from saving or doing anything).)

Preffered:
Pretty much anything story focused.
RPGs, VNs and similar games.
Other Genres as well if the story is good.
Avoid:
Rythm-games, beat'em ups, Racing, anything Multiyplayer.
I suck at those to an extend where I can't even get past the tutorials (excepting the last one, but I run in other problems with those)....
