Mr.Mumbles: Sometimes I really wonder why I even bother visiting RPS's site anymore. Their white-knighting bullshit just keeps on going. Latest example: Making the Himalayas out of itty bitty molehills.

The ending of that game may seem slightly in poor taste, sure, but being outright disgusted by such a trivial detail and to forego on a game because of it is just plain dumb. Next up: Princess Peach being kidnapped and forced into weddings. Yeah. Let's read some more into that, won't you? =P Video game tropes outrage at its finest.

Fucking snowflakes.

TheSaint54: RPS has turned over time. I haven't been there is a very long time and don't plan to. With that said, good PC gaming sites are few and far between these days. If you know of any good one's, let me know. I still go to PCGamer every once in a while, however; I can only tolerate that site in short spans.
pcgamesn.com is pretty good, I also like Eurogamer even though they are multi-format. Generally their PC coverage is very good.
The OP don't think a certain subject deserves attention. But by creating a thread about that, he brings attention to the subject.

I'd been there, too.

Telika: But in this game, there's the gooey hypocrisy of the hero being basically the same as the bad guy : he's rewarded by having a harem fantasy fulfilled, without the guilt.
Maybe there's a second game planned, where the hero of the first game will be the bad guy?! ;P

ps. Of course it's not, but I think it'd be hillarious. Just to mess with both sides: over-sensitive SJWs who hate the first game for "sexism" and with the "Dark Lords of the Evil Patriarchy" who defend the "artist's" (=developer`s) freedom of expression against the white knights.

That would be actually cool. I love when individual games, or videogame franchises, do that. But this would be hard to discuss without showering the thread with spoilers just by mentionning titles...

Doc0075: pcgamesn.com is pretty good
Wasn't it only last year when pcgamesn produced an article on hardware which randomly launched into a tirade against Donald Trump halfway through, and a couple of months ago when they made sweeping accusations against esports figures based on insinuation and innuendo? Their editors will let anything through.

amok: honestly? who the frak cares. so a game 'triggers' a bunch of people, and then an article 'triggers' a different bunch. big wohoo.

what ever. personally I prefer to play games then to care about any of this.
I'm sure there's plenty of people who would rather us little people ignore this problem.
The other people aren't triggered but quite rightly annoyed at either a publicity stunt or yet more of this garbage which has sullied the once reasonable rock toilet paper shotgun site.

solution? stop reading RPS

edit - and yes, it is triggered... for both sides... especially since this article was apolitical and whats there is what you read into it

I generally don't care about it until a game is censored to appease said triggered people or a game is stated as not being localised because of "SJW nonsense" by the publisher as is the case of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3. That in general pisses me off.

This particular game however is a 'meh'- much ado about nothing - unless the dev suddenly changes it to appease the very easily triggered, which seems unlikely at this point.

Maybe it's my crappy net connection, but I watched the video snip in question.
He thrusts his hips, just to make sure you know he’s talking about raping them.
Uh, no, he's not "shaking his hips to make sure you know he's talking about raping them." That "ha ha ha" sound the boss makes after asking if the fathers sent the hero? He's having a belly-laugh. Meaning, he's laughing at the helplessness of the fathers. Shaking his hips? Really? The article writer got that out of those 48 pixels moving for about a second?
Once you defeat him, the women live on your menu screen, dancing in their underwear.
Must be my connection again, because those tiny pixel creatures could be wearing the swimming suits that they were kidnapped in. But he's sure it's underwear? haha. But seriously, he gripes that the women hang out in the menu once you win the game. Well, yeah. You kill the bad guy, go activate the mechanism to free the women, and then go straight to a "Complete!" screen. So sure, once you get through the scoring, you get to see that the women are now free. Which seems to be the point of the game since it ends with the caged women being lowered.

The author makes assumptions, most particularly that the women are going to be rape victims. Instead of, say, part of some medical experiment, as I infer from the words "specimen" and "vessel".

If you want to get upset about some sort of 'rape culture' thing, maybe this is not the game in front of which you choose to draw your line in the sand.

As an aside, I find it funny that the author was tempted to vote for Caveblazers as a best-of contender, while in the video he links it sounds like the Let's Play-er is relieved to finally be done with the game.
Caveblazers’ final boss is a beefy guy called the Overlord who keeps women in cages, who asks if their fathers sent you, refers to the women as “specimens” and “vessels”, and says they’re going to bear him children. He thrusts his hips, just to make sure you know he’s talking about raping them. Once you defeat him, the women live on your menu screen, dancing in their underwear.
That's actually pretty funny.

Crosmando: That's actually pretty funny.
Rape is not funny! (except for the rapist, maybe...)

Anyway, I am certain the game developer thanks RPS for the extra fame, which I am sure will mean some extra sales, not because people are pro-rape, but because now they have at least heard about the game.

So the name of the game is Caveblazers. Remember the name, Caveblazers. It is the game you later see in your favorite game store and remember "Hmmm, I recognize the title of this game from somewhere, unlike with all those other similar indie platformer games in the store... better to buy it then. Heck, I'll buy ten copies just to be sure.".

Do we have a GOG wishlist item for this game yet? EDIT: Yep we do:

It is odd though, if I treat "RPS" as an acronym and say it out loud, it comes out as "rapes". Coincidence? Hardly.

If it was "HRPS" instead, it would be more like "herpes", I guess. Still something sexual.
